Gorilla with a Brush

Trying to get my mojo back. I just want to power through a project and try to finish it rather than worry about making it perfect. So I started on this Splinter model.

For those of you who have been following Benjamin’s progress, he is now officially considered “cured” of FIP! This disease was once considered 100% fatal, but there is now treatment available. If you have any questions about that treatment, I’m happy to answer them.

I did! And I was chatting with her about all of the donations people made. She is beyond relieved that she got enough to cover at least the medicine costs to get him over the finish line!

As you might know, (1) I am a huge animal lover and (2) my cat Benjamin has been fighting FIP this year. I rarely share donation requests, but this one is urgent for another cat fighting FIP. This guy is 2/3 of the way done with treatment and his family has been through the ringer this year...

...hoping for no signs of relapse. So far so good. He does have low white blood cell counts (which is not a common side effect of FIP, but can sometimes be caused by the medicine), that aren't recovering, so we're running tests to rule out other problems and hoping to see the WBC counts climb.

Thank you!!!! Benjamin is doing pretty well - he's feisty, playful, hungry all of the time, and mostly doing great. The disease caused him to lose some strength and control in his back legs, but he doesn't let it slow him down too much. He completed the treatments and is in observation right now...

I sure miss my wonderful wife and kids, but it’s been a fun weekend in Phoenix seeing family and old friends, playing games and catching up.

Our little warrior Benjamin has been fighting FIP this year. Up until a few years ago, this was a death sentence for cats. But there is now a treatment that is as much as 90% effective in curing the disease (although some vets still don’t know about it and recommend euthanasia).

Tinkering around with this fella as a new project. I have a bunch of projects in random states of starting/finishing. I’m having trouble getting them over the finish line lately.

Yesterday I accidentally made my coffee with distilled water instead of filtered water. The coffee came out incredibly smooth tasting. Tried it again today, and it was not a fluke. Was this some crazy coffee secret everyone knows about that they never told me?

Another one of my favorites - I call this one "Santa on Vacation". He gets tired of hanging out with reindeer all of the time.

I know this guy is not the flashiest model out there, but I personally love this paint job. I tried to do a lot with a very limited palette and use subtle color and brushstrokes to give him a lot of character. It doesn't hurt that he's a fellow gorilla, either!

I've started to force myself to hobby a bit lately, but the progress is small and not worth sharing. So instead here's a throwback to a model I had a lot of fun painting. One of my favorite movies and movie characters.
