Maron's most listened-to episode was with Obama; hundreds of thousands of people who had never listened to him before wanted to hear the President on a podcast. But Maron's audience was always fairly niche and consistent; the general podcast audience grew exponentially during his run.

Joe doesn't even acknowledge that the podcast market got beyond over-saturated from the time Maron was #1 to where he ended up in the ratings. None of these mega celebrities with podcasts would have ever entered the format were it not for Maron paving the way.
