Definitely all them to! Most public libraries welcome requests from their community regarding things to add to the collection. They may have a form on their website or you can talk to someone when you visit to find out what their process is for requesting materials.

That's not to say I won't ever buy direct from indie publishers - it's just been an easy process to get started using IPR's library program.

All purchasing has been through IPR so far. As a nonprofit, we need tax-exempt purchasing, so I have to check every individual publisher if buying directly. IPR makes it very easy because they are set up for tax-exempt sales to non-profits, have a library discount, & have a great selection of games.

They seem to work well for the purpose! It's hard to see in the photos above all the play tools also inside, but I've got a thread from about a week ago that has photos of all the contents.

More than made it into libraries! In my previous job I was a children's librarian at a public library and I ran a TTRPG club for 3rd-6th graders. Goblin Errands was one of the games in our rotation! They loved it!

I collect multi-player & solo TTRPGs for this collection. I avoid game books where you alter the book itself (unless it’s a page or two that can be printed). I do collect things like Black Armada Game's Wreck This Deck that have you alter something other than the book.

In addition to the cover reinforcement, we also use book tape on the inside to more firmly secure the cover to the pages for books with staple bindings.

For games w/ less sturdy covers that don’t need kits, we reinforce the cover so it will circulate longer using Kapco’s Easy Cover II. Here are examples of @junkfoodgames.bsky.social Death Cap Saute and @sharkbombs.bsky.social Goblin Errands with the clear 15 mil covers.

For TTRPGs with inclusions like cards, coins, bookmarks, etc., we create kits! The kits live in stackable plastic containers w/ a hinge lock. As a rule, if a game can be played with dice & paper, we don’t make a kit. If extra things are required for play, then we make a kit!

The player kits we made live in a storage box by @gamegenic.com. Each box has 5 player kits inside. Each player kit contains: 1 RPG dice set, 1 coin, 1 dry erase marker, and 1 blank character standee. These sets are generic so they can work for many different games.

For TTRPGs that are just the book(s) with sturdy covers and no inclusions, such as Blades in the Dark or Monster of the Week, we process those just like a regular book – no additional processing necessary! We do have separate player kits that students can check out if they need them, though.

Now for some info & examples of how we collect TTRPGs at my library! I used the IPR program to purchase titles because they made it very easy to buy a variety of titles in one place. I’m very thankful they offer this and will continue to use it!

TTRPGs come in a WIDE variety of sizes, formats, & bindings. This makes collecting them for library circulation challenging, but usually not impossible. TTRPGs are sold in many places – sometimes a distributor, sometimes direct from publisher. Libraries like to have as few accounts as possible.

My library has a tabletop game collection that includes: board games, TTRPGs, puzzles, & tarot cards. On the call # label, the “B” means the item goes in the tabletop collection. Board games have no additional collection indicator, but TTRPGs, puzzles, and tarot cards do:
