Labโ€™s 1st preprint!

Menstruation is understudied due to societal taboos + a biological challenge: mice (a key system for research + drug discovery) donโ€™t menstruate.

@cagricevrim.bsky.social made menstruating mice + used them to discover early events in menstruation.

He is on the job market!

I think the taboo of the challenges of academic environments is very slowly, glacial pace really, but starting to be talked about more openly even in the news here in Germany at least. I'm sure your experience would be relatable to more people than you think... It's brave to open up about them.

Thank you to all the many people who helped me with my proposal and a special shout-out to my first ever research assistant Sarah Sonnenberg. To the wonderful, encouraging and supportive people I met along the way.

I can't wait to start this new adventure. (4/4)

Programmed seasonal brain shrinkage in the common shrew via water loss without cell death Brain plasticity, the brainโ€™s inherent ability to adapt its structure and function, is crucial for responding to environmental challenges but is usualโ€ฆ

The secret to shrew brain shrinkage? ๐Ÿค”
Not cell loss, but water loss!
Our new paper shows that brain cells shrink by losing water, a wild feat of brain plasticity ๐Ÿคฏ

Long-term live imaging, cell identification and cell tracking in regenerating crustacean legs Live imaging allows tracking cellular behaviours and cell fates during the entire course of leg regeneration, spanning approximately one week, in a crustacean model.

In the latest paper, @cagricevrim.bsky.social, @berylbiologist.bsky.socialโ€ฌ & Ko succeeded in imaging the entire course of leg regeneration and @mlrusciano.bsky.socialโ€ฌ & @almazan.bsky.social developed HCR to identify specific cell types after imaging. elifesciences.org/articles/107... 4/6

A genetically tractable non-vertebrate system to study complete camera-type eye regeneration Nature Communications - Accorsi et al. show that the apple snail Pomacea canaliculata has eyes similar to humans and can fully regenerate them. They then developed genetic tools to establish these...

Evolutionโ€™s eye game is wild, but mollusks take it to another level

CRISPR in apple snails gives us a new model to dissect how nature rebuilds complex organs like the camera-type eyes we humans possess

It turns out Evolution doesnโ€™t just innovate, it rewinds, remixes, & regenerates
