Good to know. It's a kind of wierd situation because he was an orphan displaced person so it might be more or less complicated. I'm trying to establish descent for a citizenship thing. I've emailed OT but I'll let you know if I need help.

Has anyone in NZ been through the process of unsealing historic (ca.1950) adoption records? The adopted person is my grandfather but he, my grandmother and my mum are long dead, I do have an aunt though.

Female #kakapo Kohengi on her three eggs on Pukenui/Anchor Island today. We don't yet know if they're fertile, but will investigate soon. So far fertility on Anchor is very high: only 8 infertile out of 33 checked. We expect many more infertile eggs though. #kakapo2026 #conservation #birds

Attenuators - Best value earplugs in Aotearoa - Poco Moto These are the best value earplugs you can find in Aotearoa! 'Earplugs' is not the right word here - strictly speaking, they're attenuators...

On a friendly note, it's difficult times, workwise. If you were ever thinking about getting some really nice earplugs for that gig you've got tickets for, I'd love you to consider mine. They're very good, I just quite suck at *checks* spending money on advertising.

A couple of years ago I might have said that at least you have to go hunting a little deeper to find overt racism, xenophobia, and sexism these days and at least it's not manistreamed in the newspapers and parliamentary debates 😬😬

French Rev is 18th century. Although, ironically, this is a very 19th century argument to make 😅

It looks like they employed children to do the graphic design on this sign too.

part of this is like, conservatives projecting; part of this is conservatives unable to imagine politics without money; and part of this is dudes who are so out of touch with feminized labor that they think children's birthday parties exist as a spontaneous act of parthogenesis

But you honestly don't need to be a logistics whizz or do big things. It's about incorporating care into how you walk through the world and putting your energy and love into small deeds during the hardest times. For example, I put this on my backpack before a protest a couple of years ago.

This is so real. See also: planning holidays with small children. Particularly if those small children have any typre of dietary, health, or neurodiverse stuff going on. There's a reason why they like their women isolated in the home and exhausted.

Which, side note and not obviously not applicable/appropriate in the current US situation out on the streets, is why making activist spaces child-friendly is so important. If activism doesn't accomodate children it de facto excludes their caregivers and the very meaningful ways they contribute.

I think about how much untapped potential there is in every community, particularly in this logistics and care-providing sphere dominated by unpaid women, all the time. How many people can't put their bodies on the line for myriad reasons but can smooth the way for those that do.

I did this with no formal experience, just some previous work as a line/breakfast chef in a hotel restaurant and several years of organising the logistics of my family with two preschoolers. Organising birthdays and holidays with young children was by far the bigger factor in pulling it all off.

This is so real. A few years ago I oversaw and organised the logistics for the catering of a large protest, including a multi-day camp, pretty much single-handedly. I had a modest budget comprised of a small charge from each camp attendee and ended up with tonnes of money and food left over.

Items related to on board medical care. Whether at the hands of a ship physician or items intended for self-treatment.

I wonder if it's not coincidental that there is a large Dutch migrant presence in Southland and Groundswell's Southland beginnings. Perhaps not the same individuals but a social media/in-person milieu.

I have a "conspiracy board" style set up for my thesis with literal red string on the wall of my office at uni. I was struggling to keep track of how my subjects overlap and interact in my head and in document form. The board works a treat 😅

Rockgardens are one of the few places I would consider using plastic weedmat but even then you can get biodegradable options these days, wool, jute etc. Cardboard is good for weed suppression but breaks down very fast and you would need to relay fresh stuff every year, not ideal for low maintenance.
