With so many big names it is surprising The Thursday Murder Club is the appallingly bad movie it is. Gross ham acting, wooden dialogue, and a ludicrous plot. I’ve seen more convincing episodes of Midsomer Murders. (And that is a very low bar!)

It is worth tracking the Tiffany Aching sequence through from Wee Free Men to its magical culmination in the Shepherd’s Crown which radiates humanity, truth and beauty in TP’s richly idiosyncratic way. These titles may have stated for younger readers, but morph into one of his finest achievements.

The very best of British writing (for children) is brilliant stuff, and this is an example of its brilliant best. Richly multi-layered it is also a deeply engaging story. It really does burn bright. Don’t miss it US.
