The Legislature rightly rejected the governor’s ill-conceived plan to fast-track the Delta Tunnel Project in June and should reject it again.

Delta communities that will be devastated by this unaffordable and unnecessary project cannot be bought off with $200 million. In fact, no amount of money can compensate for the destruction of thousands of acres of prime farmland and the loss of fisheries and tribal resources.

On Wednesday, the governor also proposed to create a $200 million “community benefits” plan for Delta communities that will be severely impacted by the 45-mile-long, $20 billion-plus water tunnel, should it ever be built.

The governor on Wednesday renewed his request that the Legislature approve his tunnel fast-tracking proposal before the end of this year’s Legislative session in September. In June, the Legislature rejected the governor’s attempt to include the fast-tracking plan in the budget.

NEW: The California Legislative Delta Caucus on Wednesday once again urged leaders of the California Senate and Assembly to reject Gov. Gavin Newsom’s renewed effort to fast-track the Delta Tunnel Project.

More good news! The CA Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee unanimously approved my SB 833, which would require human oversight of artificial intelligence used in California's critical infrastructure.

Excellent! The CA Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee approved my SB 7, the No Robo Bosses Act. SB 7 would require human oversight of artificial intelligence systems in the workplace and would bar AI that uses personal information of workers to predict what they’ll do in the future.

On a roll! The California Assembly Revenue & Taxation Committee unanimously approved my SB 86, which would create more clean energy jobs in CA by extending a key program that provides tax incentives to green energy manufacturers. SB 86 also adds fusion energy to the tax incentive program.

Great news! The #caleg Assembly Judiciary Committee approved my SB 69, which would equip the CA Department of Justice with expertise in artificial intelligence by creating an AI-focused team within the DOJ. Vote was 12-0.

Next stop, Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Honored to stand with environmentalists and pro-solar energy folks at the Capitol today, and very pleased that an important agreement was reached on AB 942 so that the bill will no longer curtail rooftop solar in California, and so enviros no longer oppose the legislation.

Excellent! The California Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee approved my SB 711, which would make it easier for CA taxpayers – especially taxpayers with small businesses – to file their taxes by aligning several state requirements with federal requirements as of 1/1/25.

Good news! The #caleg Assembly Transportation Committee on Monday evening approved my SB 787, which would create more clean energy jobs in California. SB 787 would strengthen clean energy supply chains for batteries, offshore wind, & building decarbonization.

California’s essential farmworkers are under an unprecedented attack by President Trump’s dangerous and illegal immigration raids. So, it’s imperative that California does all it can to protect farmworkers from workplace mistreatment — specifically, from wage theft.

Excellent! Gov. Newsom today signed into law my bill SB 846, which will help protect CA farmworkers from wage theft.

Across the country, insurers are passing on the costs of fossil fueled climate disasters to everyday people through higher rates and declining coverage.

A growing number of officials including @senmcnerney.bsky.social and @repgaramendi.bsky.social are demanding that Big Oil pay their fair share.
