Today at the Council hearing on @dcpublicschools.bsky.social, immigrant educators are testifying directly that DCPS is going back on direct assurances they made to them upon hiring by repealing the H1B visa pathway. We need @chmnmendelson.bsky.social to fix this in the budget and uphold DC values!

Educators showing up yesterday in #Ward7 to let @chmnmendelson.bsky.social know we MUST prioritize experiential learning, educator retention, community schools in budget. In a city of our wealth, it’s only a “tough budget year” if we fail to ask those w/ capacity to INVEST to protect our residents!

The Senate passed a tiny, logistical fix for DC’s budget and President Trump endorsed it.

Now the House is ignoring it, wrecking DC’s finances out of pure apathy.

It’s unacceptable. The House must act.

I had a great time chatting with @empowereddc.bsky.social yesterday as they shared their FY2026 budget priorities with me, they also offered insight on the current challenges that teachers are facing in the classroom. I was happy to hear their perspective and learn more information.

The bill was pulled so there is currently no text available anymore but she plans to re introduce it with the new council period in January.
