Meet Helen (she/they), Farm2People’s illustrious Comms Manager! Helen spearheads our social media and helps with grants, newsletters, and our emerging policy work. She is passionate about the intersection of food and environment and loves books, produce, and cafes with friends.

We envision an equitable food system that: 
*PROMOTES DIGNITY from end to end along the food supply chain
*IS REGENERATIVE rather than extractive, building rich soils instead of depleting
*PROMOTES HEALTHY OUTCOMES by nourishing the underserved and disenfranchised food seekers of LA

You read that right… in October, Farm2People had a HUGE impact!! At this moment when SNAP benefits are getting delayed and cut and food access is on everyone’s mind, we are humbled to be working alongside so many other wonderful orgs and individuals to provide for our Los Angeles community 💚

In her free time, you can find Lindsay working her community garden plot, playing beach volleyball, or hanging out with her black cat and 40 freshwater fish.

Lindsay’s background lies in food security and environmental advocacy, and her day to day is as a legal aid attorney with Neighborhood Legal Services. She provides free services to low-income patients on legal issues that are social determinants of health.

Meet Lindsay De May (she/any pronouns), the current Chair of Farm2People’s Board of Directors! Lindsay leads our board meetings and recently did a comprehensive update to our bylaws … which is fitting since Lindsay has a law degree from Vermont Law School … #4 environmental law program in the US!

We are excited to focus even more on local sourcing, and we also believe that continuing to work with farmers in farther-flung, in-state regions is meaningful 1) to increase access to seasonal produce varieties and 2) to connect farmers in rural areas to the unique market that Los Angeles provides.

The LA Urban Rural Roundtable defines ‘foodshed’ as a geographical area that produces food for a region’s occupants; the LA foodshed encompasses 10 counties in Southern California, including all those bordering LA County, and extending up to San Luis Obispo and down to Imperial. 🧵(2/3)

Farm2People works with small- and mid-sized farms in CA up to 400 miles from downtown LA. Though our food access reach remains local, our support of farmers is regional. We are currently engaging with the concept of the Los Angeles foodshed as a means of increasing our emphasis on local food. 🧵(1/3)

September is Hunger Action Month, and 1 in 4 Angelenos is food insecure. At Farm2People, we are proud to be part of the solution as a non-traditional food hub and food aggregator focusing on the local food supply chain. How do you engage in the fight against hunger?

We’re introducing a new series: bite-sized descriptions of the various elements of Farm2People, explaining what we do and how we do it! To start us off, we’re going to talk about our mission.
