TΔhuna Glenorchy International Dark Sky Sanctuary was the venue for Sunday night. A fantastic evening of toasted marshmallows, mulled wine and expert guided star gazing was enjoyed by 50 or so at the Headwaters. Rangi TakΕ completed the night and Otago's #InternationalDarkSkyWeek

Saturday was the opening of Professor Brian Boyle's fantastic SkyBox at Antimony Observatory in Kawarau Gibbston International Dark Sky Park. This converted shipping container now lets visitors escape into the depths of space with an incredible display of astrophotography on multiple screens.

Next, it was on to Naseby for their ANZAC Day Astronomy Event organized by the community dark sky team, who are very close to achieving International Dark Sky Community status. Over 50 people (nearly most the village!!) took part in events including screening of the Winterstellar movie Rangi TakΕ.

Here's a few highlights from how we celebrated International Dark Sky Week in Otago. It all started at the Vulcan pub in St Bathan's where, between pints, the local community association gave their support to the Winterstellar Astro Site program to get recognition of their perfect dark skies.
