Landslide hazards in the area of 2023 Türkiye-Syria earthquake A new paper (Görüm et al. 2025) has examined rainfall-induced landslide hazard in the area affected by the 2023 Türkiye-Syria earthquake.

Our latest article was featured on @eos.org The Landslide Blog, eos.org/thelandslide.... Many thanks to Dave Petley for summarizing this study and increasing its visibility. I have long appreciated his contributions to the field of landslides. Thanks @davepetley.bsky.social

The 2023 Türkiye-Syria earthquake disaster was exacerbated by an atmospheric river - Communications Earth & Environment The combination of topography, as a driver for extreme precipitation, and slope instability from seismicity contributed to the compound hazard of post-seismic rainfall-induced landslides, according to...

Strong earthquakes in mountain landscapes can trigger widespread slope failures, initiating chains of multiple hydro-geomorphic hazards. These chains can amplify the geohazards and last many years following strong earthquakes.
