Interior Order Chokes Off Permits for Solar and Wind on Federal Lands The department creates a seemingly impossible new permitting criteria for renewable energy.

HUGE: The Trump administration will no longer permit any solar or wind projects on federal lands unless they produce more energy-per-acre than coal, gas or nuclear power plants.

Solar and wind literally produce less energy per acre, so simply this may just kill off any project on federal lands.

How your research can survive a US federal grant termination Researchers in the United States are filing appeals, seeking court remedies, turning to philanthropy and starting GoFundMe campaigns.

This rollercoaster of a @nature.com story is out! I talked to > 20 researchers whose grants were terminated; several were reinstated recently. Most are competing for smaller pots of $ to keep research--often involving marginalized community groups--alive.

Advice: β€œIf at all possible, push back.”

Thank you @virginiagewin.bsky.social for the thoughtful story on what the grant terminations mean and how scientists are responding.

The collateral damage:

β€œOne of my big concerns is that the trust in science and in scientists is broken,” says @maratimes.bsky.social.

β€œMy priority is just being ethical in my relationships with research collaborators, participants, community partners and students," says @alidacantor.bsky.social.

β€œWhy Are We Funding This?” Long-standing myths about β€œsilly science” have contributed to the reckless slashing of government-supported research.

A great defense of discovery-based science in a time when it is very much needed.

Preschool for All is voter approved initiative. Any changes should only happen after extensive public engagement. Our community needs us to lead with transparency and respect for the will of the voters, especially when democracy is under attack and important programs face painful cuts. #orleg #orpol
