Nowadays a lot of what the series has done became normal but it was really ahead of the curve PS1 and even still in the PS2 era. The character development and depth they had, and how much banter there was, was unmatched until recently. Just hrs & hrs of characters talking (optional if u wanted it)

Home media haul for October!

This was a big month for me. Got some horror stuff which was fitting for the season but funny enough superhero stuff too! The new director’s cut for Captain America is incredible stuff to boot.

Clue is 1 of my all time faves so I love I got it in a steelbook finally.

I’ve been keeping up with my quest to get every Mamoru Hosoda steelbook and got 2 this month. First The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (this is maybe my fave film of his) and second Belle which I got on sale for $10!

I now bought TGWLTT 3x. lol Almost every format too sans VHS. XD

DVD, blu-ray, 4K.

Got some really good anime recently too. Been meaning to share this Animeigo purchase for awhile.

First time I ordered early and got the o-cards; they look really nice!

Definitely really cool to see such a boutique label take a chance on these very different classic titles. Sasuke looks so fun.

I’m really curious about this new Toxic Avenger remake; the art design and psychedelic colors definitely make it seem like it will be tons of fun!

And yeah, Zombie Island, I HAD to get it! That’s an all timer childhood classic.

And damn does the cover connecting to the DQIII remake from last year’s just look so incredible. We need more games that do this! lol

Now I can only dream a DQIV remake is announced and cover art keeps expanding for that!

It was also one of the first JRPGs I remember where the characters debate if it’s ethical to kill people. Back in the PS2 days, I remember that being rare.

Like not main characters, but standard enemies!

Just the regular guards/soldiers you fight in vidya.

I remember vividly them debating that.

I think Lee & I were trying not to say it back then when we told you about Abyss and just kept saying he’s a jerk but plot wise there’s a really reasonable explanation. lol

But basically the protagonist is mentally still just a child and has to grow up really fast and face some really harsh truths.

We were talking about how much you enjoyed Naruto over other battle Shonen protagonists because of his character development. lol

He had no memories and had to be taught to do everything again, walk, talk, even just think.

So he’s a 7 year old but in a strong teenage body. And yeah, that amounts to him behaving like a brat in the first 1/3rd because he basically is a brat! lol

He grows after coming to terms w/ his trauma.

Somewhat of a spoiler (you learn this maybe 30 mins into the game lol): At the start of the game Luke (our protagonist) is 17 but only mentally 7 years old.

A tragic event happened to him when he was 10 & the trauma left him in a catatonic state. He essentially regressed back to the mind of a baby.

I wouldn’t say that.
Abyss is the game though where the protagonist is a jerk in the first act of the game, then after making a huge mistake comes to see the errors of his ways and becomes a truly heroic person by the end.

Hey! You said you wanted character development the other day too! LOL

So now you have to play Tales of Abyss when they remaster it. He plays the protag in that. XD

They’re currently remaster Xillia 1 and next Xillia 2, but lots of rumors that Abyss is next. They renewed the copyright and all that jazz.

This is so funny to me. You have no idea how huge the press hyped “the most Star Wars RPG of all time” back then. I was like in 11th or 12th grade when it came out, I wanna say, and we were so hyped for Star Wars FF! And that Sasuke was in a FF too XD

That’s the magic of Yasumi Matsuno. He’s able to blend a mature western dark fantasy feel to JRPGs decades before the Souls games made it cool. Ogre Tactics, FF Tactics, what he was able to accomplish in FFXII despite executive meddling from Square enix, and probably his crown jewel Vagrant Story.

I keep forgetting you for whatever reason missed the bus on having a teenage Final Fantasy phase like the rest of us. XD I played the hell outta the psone version back then in high school. It’s cool to see how well it still hooks people some 20 years later.

Got the new Superman film! It even has this neat lenticular cover that changes from Clark to Supes. :O Didn’t realize that when I bought it.

I absolutely adore the original Donner & Reeves series of films and personally did not care for the last film iteration so I’m really excited for this one!
