If you’ll allow me, I can say it’s been wild today to have this unfold while so much normal life happens around an “act of terror,” as the FBI called it, and the horrifying loss of life and injuries. People walking dogs, clocking in, clocking out, planning for kids to get back in school.

We expect an official update sometime tomorrow. City officials are getting briefed in AM, and public brief usually follows.

Per NOPD, the press conference with an update on the Bourbon Street attack has been delayed to 1pm.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell just walked in, flanked by two law enforcement officers armed with rifles.

AG Liz Murrill also now in the bldg.

I'm at NOPD HQ waiting on the 11am press conference with the official update on the Bourbon Street terrorist attack. Gov. Jeff Landry just walked into the bldg, a few min behind FBI special agent in charge Alethea Duncan.

This witness showed me a crumbled Krystal burger receipt with a 3:11am timestamp. Police said it all began about 3:15am.

Walked* the perimeter. I also spoke with a man who says he saw the driver turn onto Bourbon from Canal. Said he crashed into people like “boom, boom, boom” as he forced his way through busy street. Was driving white 4-door F250.

I just watched the entire perimeter and did not see a truck, so that tells me it’s probably within a block at this point.

The scene down here this morning is a bizarre mix of people walking dogs and getting back to hotel rooms wearing last night sequins. And then I saw a woman go up to LSP asking “is that my baby? They said my daugter got hit by a truck.”

Some things to know ... Louisiana law:
1) doesn't require sex ed,
2) requires sex ed emphasize abstinence when it IS taught,
3) bans asking students about sex practices, meaning we can't survey if sex ed works here,
4) bans the school use of some medically-appropriate terminology around sex/gender.
