Unravelling A Complex Ice Age Landscape
Ever wondered about how the complex landscapes of the #lakedistrict and #eden valley were shaped by the ice age? Paul Carling explores this in his facinating @edenriverstrust.bsky.social webinar youtu.be/1Mdw8cuNOhs?...

Terrace. with cowpeas, maize residues and protected terrace risers with trees and grass
Steep terraces hillsides
Recently I visited the Machakos area of Kenya and saw steep terraced hillsides, with the terraces protected by grasses and trees; maize being intercropped with leguminous perennials, residues being returned to the soil surface. And all this happening at scale, just so impressive!

Mitigation measures designed to reduce soil compaction decrease the surface runoff, soil erosion and phosphorus losses from tramlines in agricultural fields
You have to enable JavaScript in your browser's settings in order to use the eReader.
Tramlines in fields can cause a lot of runoff, carrying soil and pollutants to water. ππ§οΈ Our paper, dedicated to the late Martyn Silgram, found using very flexible tyres and a rotary harrow to break up compaction can reduce this problem π±π§ #farming #environment #soilhealth shorturl.at/lEPB8
