Not going to pretend today wasn't depressing but the far right has been stronger in the UK before. Mosley packed out Earls Court and was backed by several large newspapers. Enoch Powell had the support of 74% of the population.

Handwritten notes detailing the virtues of sea water for health
Thinking of taking a dip in the sea to cool down? You'll be delighted to hear that sea water is also good for restoring strength, rheumatic pains, and healing wounds. This 18th century #herbal notebook also recommends that you drink the water - please don't do that!๐

In 1599 King James granted a Royal Charter for the establishment of our College. The charter brought together physicians, surgeons and apothecaries to improve standards of healthcare in Glasgow and the West of Scotland.
When Joseph Lister began advocating germ theory in the 19th century, his critics ridiculed him. One man would walk into the operating theatre, slam the door, and say: "There, Mr. Lister's germs can't get in!" Never thought when I was writing THE BUTCHERING ART that we'd be backsliding into the past.

14.06.2025 15:29 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Cropped image from a book showing a colour illustration of a lynx in side profile, standing on a patch of grass. It has four legs, a thick greyish-brown coat (with some lighter patches), and a short stubby tail with a black tip. Its most distinctive feature is its long ears, which are pointed upwards and have tufts of black hair at the tips. Its head is turned towards you, and it is staring at you with startled yellow eyes!
Good morning to everyone, but especially to all the lynxes, for today is their special day!
To celebrate International Lynx Day, here is an illustration of a lynx from the book 'Animated Nature' (1828) by Georges-Louis Leclerc.
