We're low on student workers because of finals season, so be patient/let us know your priorities. If it's just those two issues of Cyanide, I think we can get to them Tuesday.

Close up of zine text that reads

While we filled out our questionnaires, they played mock episodes of the show with questions like, "When your best friend goes to the toilet, 'Does she hover, use the protective paper, or just plop right down?' I guffawed. I'm sure I could guess, but is that the real gauge of a close friendship? And that certainly wasn't a question we'd prepared ourselves for. We had forgotten that all contemporary popular culture is about coyly shocking people and openly discussing bowel movements.

Today in zine cataloging: do you hover, cover, or sit?

(not trying to be gate-keepy here, but it matters that zines come out of anarchopunk DIY cultures, as well as radical self-publishing like the Harlem Renaissance and Samizdat)

I have an expanding zine corpus that is ready for light experimentation (with some notice). The main thing is that I want to focus on criticality--how zines are part of a radical publishing tradition and different from other self-publications. Zines are not for everyone. They are for subcultures.

A lot of what I do is have people read and discuss zines, either that I curate or that they find in the catalog. I use a document camera so we can share our close reading (as informed by Alison Piepmeier's Why Zines Matter article/chapter).

"A: No. Instead, it should be devoting its energy and resources to atoning for its checkered history" and continues in that vein.

Barbie in the Media This book offers a groundbreaking exploration of Barbie as a transmedia phenomenon and enriches our understanding of Barbie’s influence in our culture

This new book Barbie in the Media: The Transmedia Presence of Mattel's Celebrity Doll includes a chapter on Barbie zines link.springer.com/book/10.1007... I wrote a cute lil review "gleefully unpack, behead, disrobe, disfigure, reconfigure, close read, and generally love to hate and hate to love"
