Six months ago the DC streetcar was about to get dedicated lanes and then they decided better to scrap the whole thing

Kind of skeptical this is the reason. VA blaming DC for your commute interruptions. Conveniently not their fault.

Looking forward to level boarding platforms being a component of the next generation streetcar plan which we will never fund.

I appreciate a shared entry as a buffer for debris and water dripping. Sometimes a townhouses will have an entry way if it’s on the bigger side.

Can we get SMRT out of that?

Baca is dead on. Bowser sees any pedestrianization as a special hazard. It’s not that hard!

I was thinking again about how medical lingo in English is typically rendered in Greco-Latin that the common people does not comprehend. Considering that every single person interacts with the medical system... why the gatekeeping terms?

With modern metro-like trains and better organizational integration we could have a DC-Baltimore metro. The MARC Penn line infrastructure is good enough already. No new track or stations needed.

We should be getting metro rail level service out of the Penn line infrastructure buildthebronze.org

The tracks, wires, stains on the Penn line are all good.

Get metro-like trains that can do the run faster

Run metro-like frequency

Merge the fare system

Put it on the metro maps

That’s the point. We have good infra on the Penn line but we’re running terrible frequency, trip times much longer than they need to be, and you have to pay a big transfer penalty.

Maryland needs to adopt this attitude of modernization to deliver better service.

A new Bronze line metro could use MARC Penn line infrastructure and deliver metro-level service between DC and Baltimore

The funding ask is in with MD, VA, DC governments. They are selling this as much cheaper than previously planned blue loop.

Fair point. I think there’s also a heuristic that anyone talking about cutting waste must think the service itself is a waste. If you want more transit you typically ask for more transit money.

TEX Rail FLIRT
266’ 4 segment
176 tons empty

LRV
285’ 3 car
162 tons empty

Both seem to be 9.5’ wide

09.11.2025 16:04 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

How close do you get to this with a low floor DMU? FLIRT or something is FRA compliant, is it that different in some way from a low-floor LRV?

Just for the sake of argument assume you’re running the same Camden line service pattern but extending the runs.
