California ballot proposal would exempt seniors from paying property taxes
The initiative still needs enough signatures of support to be put in front of voters on the November ballot
it's not enough for california boomers that they got to enrich themselves at the expense of their own children through prop 13 letting them pay peanuts in property taxes as their shitty mcmansions and ranch homes ballooned to multiple million price tags, now they want to stop paying entirely?

They also got rid of a lot of aspects of Big Fiscal years before the election. We'll never know how 2024 would have gone with the covid-era welfare state intact.

Even if you oppose the tax "pro-Billionaires" is an insane position to take. This is like opposing a tax on cigarettes by holding a pro lung cancer rally

I think a materialist analysis lumps middle managers with workers. In labor terms "the boss" usually means the ownership of the company more so than your immediate supervisor
07.02.2026 23:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Even setting aside what their material interests might be, 2024-present has been the story of the oligarchs throwing away prosperity and profits to maintain a feudal hierarchy. How can you possibly expect these guys to support LVT that would create a more fair and equal society?

Workers and bosses fighting in a boxing ring while landlords collect all the proceeds. Cartoon Henry George says "they're fighting the wrong person"
I don't really think this meme is true. Time and time again, capital chooses to side with land against workers. The threat of homelessness is a powerful tool to discipline workers (as George himself notes). And large businesses often engage in rentiership themselves.

I think it's arguing middle income Americans have more in common with billionaires then they do the global working class

Can you imagine Henry George participating in a march celebrating the titans of industry? Celebrating the "achievements" of JP Morgan, Mark Hopkins and the like? Come on!

1. Land is wealth
2. A land value tax would reduce billionaire wealth and inequality. That's the point - land monopoly enriches the few at the expense of the many. Who do you think is still buying homes in expensive metros?

Metrolink electrification would boost efficiency and reduce pollution
Metrolink can follow Caltrainβs success and not only deliver faster, more efficient train service for the region, but give struggling cities along the line a shot in the arm.
I've got an op-ed in several papers across the Inland Empire today electrifying Metrolink service between Los Angeles and San Bernardino. It would make everyone's life a lot better and we are dumb not to do it.

In the picture there are still distinct bike lanes, they are just visually rather than physically separated. Sidewalks were wide enough to avoid conflicts in my experience.

In Munich, bike lanes are part of the *sidewalk* - unlike in the US, where even protected bike lanes are almost always part of the road. I get that painting the road is cheaper than widening the sidewalk, but what would it take for this to be the default?

Our transit ops funding problem can't be separated from our capital costs issues. We spend too much operating expensive diesel commuter trains bc we can't spend on electrification. Spend too much on buses that break down bc of underinvestment in rolling stock supply chains & procurement.
