Taking time to include art & replanting a new oak in the root zone of an ancestor oak is an acknowledgment of ideas about land & people in this place for time immemorial. Hattie is a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde & a researcher @Willamette U.

At the planting were 3 generations of Deumlings, the descendants of Joseph Smith, the builder of the original house. There were also 3 generations of the Toskovic family, the property's current owners. Our youngest person was less than 9 & the oldest more than 70.
