I keep asking myself, "have we reached peak Trump"? My answer is, "no, not by a long way". And I think we all underestimate the impact peak Trump will have, not just on US politics, but on our own, and others.

Many different responses to this. My view is that the Conservative party ceased to be β€œcentre right” some time ago, but many of those who voted for it didn’t notice. I’m not convinced it is a bad thing for them to put their votes elsewhere.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

The UAE is an authoritarian autocracy, a petro-state with no income tax for citizens, to bribe them for the lack of democratic voice or free speech

It is 85% migrant, a segregated society with a ban on integration in principle and practice, few rights, equal opportunities, nor voice for incomers

Excellent letter from the Bishop of Birmingham to Robert Jenrick.

At a time when so many other voices have been silent, the bishops have been admirably outspoken against attempts to stir up division.

The churches do a lot of community cohesion work & do not want to see this trashed for party gain.

Badenoch was on Times Radio a short time ago defending and excusing Jenrick.

Summary: 'That's not really what he was saying'.

Kemi Badenoch has chosen the side of Vladimir Putin and Nigel Farage with her plan to leave the European Convention on Human Rights.

The ECHR is a proud British creation, championed by Churchill, that protects everyone's rights and freedoms.

Warning about the dilution of the Sentencing Council’s powers, & condoning the idea of β€˜two-tier justice’, 6 months ago. If you normalize this sort of thing, it becomes harder to argue against the extreme authoritarian proposals by Robert Jenrick now.

This is a lie.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

Jenrick has gone from forgettable nobody to frothing-BNP-styled dickhead. Why does this corrupt little man get to strut around the media blowing his racist dog-whistle?
He should be shamed and shunned out of political existence. We all despise the Tory party for a reason. He’s one of those reasons.

There is a decency agenda absolutely in tune with majority feeling in the country that would be an open goal for the government if it wasn't also inclined to lurch towards an unpleasant space. Indeed it is one Keir Starmer could have personified if he could escape "Blue Labour" unpleasantness.

Robert Jenrick Robert Jenrick complained of v 'not seeing another white face' in Birmingham neighbourhood Shadow justice secretary criticised for suggesting he could tell how integrated Handsworth was based on short visit

And yet, if anyone in the press calls this racist (which it patently is), they’ll face more outrage than the man who lamented a shortage of white faces.

So we’ll politely rebrand it as β€œunwise,” perhaps β€œill-judged,” or β€œnot in keeping with the spirit of inclusivity.”
