Something that should be painfully obvious about our society is that we lionize the rich - even if they got rich doing things that don’t benefit society - and then expect them to be great leaders.
But the super rich are just hoarders.
Good leaders sacrifice, set a moral example, and empathize.
Exactly - the market switched from worrying about inflation to expecting the Fed to try and prevent a recession. Not good news…

These tariffs are asinine. Pure harm on both sides because supply chains cut across our Canadian and Mexican borders.
Notice that Trump is barely even pretending to have a strategy - mumbling vaguely about fentanyl.
He just wants to cause pain and have people beg him to stop it.
George was decent guy - not perfect, but a guy who gave his friend Julia money to help out with her abusive ex, Ivan, a drunk and a bully. Everyone felt bad for Julia, but nobody would confront Ivan.
Then George befriended Ivan and mocked Julia.
That’s it. That’s the story and we’re George.
My fellow economists: it is time to abandon the assumption that voters make rational choices based on policy.
The Biden administration did steer the economy well and rational voters would have rewarded that.
Trump and Musk lied entertainingly and won.

I want some of my tax dollars to help people who need it around the world.
0.22% of the U.S. federal budget is such aid, which is embarrassingly low. The UN has a longstanding goal of getting rich countries to give 0.7%; Europe does so. We should do more, not less.

Allies take note: be sure to call crazy uncle Donny in the adult day care every 30 days so he doesn’t try to take you out of the will again! Just say nice things 😉
That there aren't that many trans kids undergoing any kind of medical gender affirming care—to say nothing of surgery—doesn't mean that these EOs aren't horrifically harmful to them.
And they are only the beginning.
This Hannah Arendt quote feels appropriate right now
"Totalitarianism in power invariably replaces all first-rate talents, regardless of their sympathies, with those crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty."
Politicians are not doctors. They have no business dictating medical care, and they are actively causing harm to innocent people here.

Voters: wow! We hate this!
Media: dems say Trump will do it, but Trump says he won’t!

(Trump wins)
Trump: here’s project 2025. I am king.
Voters got conned.🤬🤬🤬
Note: the only reason for the tariffs is Trump got mad that Petro demanded better treatment for Colombians being deported from the U.S.

1/3 of nursery stocks from Colombia, so 8 -17% increase there. That one will hit sooner - freshness.

Hey everyone! Incredible news!
Trans Scouts selling GS cookies this year on my list have sold over 50,000 boxes of GS cookies!
If you want girl scout cookies, consider buying from a trans girl scout this year! They'll mail them to you!
This is literally my fav thing to do every year :)
Detailed coverage here of the president’s executive order targeting transgender people.
Remember that this order is completely unnecessary. It solves no problem and helps no one.
Our elected leaders could be addressing serious issues and making people’s lives better - that is their job.

An update on the TikTok situation from our monitoring on Reddit. Now you get TOS'ed for saying negative comments about meta and Zuckerberg, left-wing politics get flagged as misinformation, and you can't tag #fucktrump #fuckelon or #fuckmeta but you CAN tag #fuckbiden and #fuckkamala

But they made $58 million in transaction fees so far! That’s where the actual money is.
Obviously Trump wants to be seen as saving TikTok, but the more important precedent for him is the legal one.
Trump is asserting that he can choose which laws to enforce - that the President is the final arbiter of what is actually legal.
A self-respecting Congress and Court would push back…
Just in case you are wondering if bills targeting trans people might have an ounce of substance, they don’t.
Check out this excellent coverage of debate on one such bill in Montana, which would cause additional harm, violate people’s privacy, cost taxpayers money, and lead to litigation.
Thank you, great coverage.

But geographic location rents should belong to the people who live there. Trump is proposing colonialism.
There’s no net economic gain - he just wants to take from others.
After extensive review, France has established very positive gender affirming care guidelines, and they’ve rejected the highly politicized Cass Report as simply false.

Yes, inflation was disruptive. But the pandemic was so much more disruptive and stressful to many people.
I think people complaining about the direction of the country because of inflation are actually in large part still responding to the pandemic.
We haven’t dealt with our collective trauma.
Sad to see. Canceling my WaPo subscription was the right move.
