Critics of decolonial thought say that decolonial scholarship essentializes western thought. These critics, however, never really give an honest answer why their favorite philosophers outright supported colonialism. It’s not surprising that philosophers today justify genocide.

Palestine is the perfect contemporary example to see how the international order is fundamentally racist & genocidal. The colonized, if subservient, are promised many things but these promises never materialize. When they resist, the international order makes sure to punish them.

This attitude toward the enslaved and colonized who try to liberate themselves by any means necessary simultaneously justifies the international order and the West’s civilizing mission and distorted notions of progress and development.

Historically, enslaved and colonized people refusing and resisting the liberal reforms legal frameworks constitutive of international law was used as evidence that they were not ready to rule themselves. It was taken as evidence of their non-Western backwardness.
