To civilians: WHO and partners remain in Gaza City.
To the intl. community: Act.
This catastrophe is human-made, & the responsibility rests with us all.

Cognitive dissonance-induced malicious compliance is a beautiful thing
12.08.2025 19:41 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0Very sad. Thatโs what people call โpulling up the ladder behind oneselfโ. On the other hand, a helpful reminder that simply being a member of a (formerly) marginalised community does not confer magical immunity to bigotry. Although Iโd hope this is a minority of former immigrants.
10.08.2025 20:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The #ICJ delivered a historic Advisory Opinion on #ClimateChange that cuts through decades of delay, denial, & legal ambiguity. It did so with moral & legal clarity that leaves no doubt: states must act to prevent climate harm or be held legally responsible.

Israelโs โplan for a complete military takeover of the occupied Gaza strip must be immediately halted.โ
If executed, it โwill result in more massive forced displacement, more killing, more unbearable suffering, senseless destruction and atrocity crimes.โ

Wrote about this sort of thing in my chapter in our book on the Arab stateโ with Israeli surveillance of Palestine the most dystopian case of information collection and lethal deployment which still failed to deliver control.

Systematically obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid is against international humanitarian law and can be a war crime but cautious, hypothetical diplomatic language, slap bang in the middle of the genocide against the Gazans, really doesn't seem appropriate.
Now, questioning power is good. But questioning the guardrails that we have built over decades against unaccountable power, that's really fucking bad.
Not being able to tell the difference between the two kinds of questioning โ that's an open door to fascism.
There was a saying somewhere that one of the defining features of fascism is that it constantly questions established consensus on, say, democracy, human dignity, and equality; but I can't remember who said/wrote this and where. Does anyone know?
06.08.2025 20:32 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0As we mark 80 years since Hiroshima, the global nuclear order is under real stress. Escalation risks in Europe, South Asia, and the Korean Peninsula are intensifying. Itโs time for bold, preventive action.

05.08.2025 13:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0For anyone with a faltering memory: the Tigray war was fought from 2020-2022 (although violence and deaths continued for quite some time afterwards) and it was monstrous, with hundreds of thousands of deaths. One very compelling reason to tax billionaires until theyโre millionaires is not only that the money can used to fight poverty and the climate crisis, but also to get that money out of politics.

01.08.2025 09:58 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Russia is waging a monstrous war of aggression against Ukraine and it can't be repeated often enough that the war would end TODAY if Russia stopped fighting and withdrew all of its forces from Ukraine's territory.
If Ukraine stopped fighting, Ukraine would end.
