🤝 At the heart of all this progress is one key message: collaboration and partnership matter. Together, we are stronger - and together, we can achieve more.

That message was highlighted by MEP @stinebosse.bsky.social, who hosted our event:

👩‍⚕️ Equipping healthcare professionals through training and updated care pathways
🔬 Strengthening research and regulatory frameworks to ensure timely access to innovation

🏥 These therapies are emerging fast, and it’s crucial that our healthcare systems are prepared to integrate them.

📙In our EUDF Shadow CV Plan, we call for a comprehensive, integrated approach to preventing, diagnosing, and treating cardiometabolic diseases - diabetes, obesity, and CVD. Tackling these conditions together is the only way to drive real change and improve the health of people across Europe.

We were honoured to welcome MEP Romana Jerković, Rapporteur for the European Parliament’s report on an EU Cardiovascular Diseases Strategy. She emphasised the interconnection between CVD, diabetes, and other cardiometabolic conditions - and the need for the Plan to reflect this reality.

❤️‍🩹 These individuals face a significantly increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other complications - often at a younger age - due to the long-term effects of high blood glucose levels.

Effective diabetes management is essential to preventing cardiovascular disease (CVD)❗

Our community has been working tirelessly to ensure that diabetes is represented in this Plan.

As our Chair, Prof. Chantal Mathieu, reminded us yesterday, the stakes are high: men diagnosed with T1D before the age of 10 lose an average of 14.2 life-years. Women lose an average of 17.7 life-years.

📢 Yesterday, as we wrapped up our event, “Early Detection, Better Outcomes: Addressing Unmet Needs in Type 1 Diabetes,” we received important news: the long-awaited European Cardiovascular Health Plan is expected to be published on 16 December by @ec.europa.eu.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! We are full of hope for the future - but it will take collaboration and commitment to turn that hope into reality.

The conversation also addressed the potential of disease-modifying therapies to delay, and maybe one day even cure, T1D.
We discussed the importance of continued research and innovation and how to prepare European healthcare systems for innovative therapies.

We also heard powerful testimonies from people living with T1D, which shed light on the daily challenges of living with diabetes, the emotional toll and their hopes for a better future.

We discussed the urgency of addressing the unmet needs of people living with T1D in Europe and the critical role of early detection.

We were honoured to welcome a number of speakers and participants, including MEPs Stine Bosse, Niels Flemming Hansen and Romana Jerković.

Yesterday, together with EDENT1FI, we hosted a landmark event at the European Parliament focused on the early detection of type 1 diabetes and the promise of disease-modifying therapies.

We’ll be discussing how early detection can be implemented, evaluated, and adapted across diverse healthcare systems — and the vital work EDENT1FI is doing to make this a reality. 💙

🕒 Gives families time to prepare and understand the condition

⚠️ Reduces the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at onset

🌱 Improves long-term outcomes and quality of life

📣 This month marks a moment of transition for us, as we extend our deep thanks and warm farewells to Prof. Stefano Del Prato, who concludes his term as Chair. Having first served as Vice-Chair for two years, followed by two years as Chair, Prof. Del Prato has been an impactful force in EUDF.
