Why βgreenβ finance isnβt always as sustainable as it seems
At its most basic level, sciencewashing entails using the vocabulary of science, and borrowing its authority, to claim sustainability outcomes.
What makes finance 'green'?
A contribution to the Conversation, with Sarah Bracking, which draws on five years of research on innovations in green finance.
If green finance is to serve collective wellbeing we need proactive regulations on what green finance ought to account for.

One herbariumβs thorny future: Duke to close century-old 'gem' of biodiversity research
Dukeβs collection of more than 800,000 specimens of fungi, plants and algae makes the herbarium one of the largest in the country. The move to close it has drawn criticism from faculty and researchers...
Despite the outcry, Duke University still plans to close its huge herbarium, because it doesn't want to spend $25 million to repair the collection's building.
Duke's endowment was $11.6 billion as of 2022; it is also the primary beneficiary (32%) of the independent $3.69 billion Duke Endowment.
