Possibly arboreal termites. They build their nests in the trees and connect to the ground via mud tunnels usually visible on the outside of the trunk.

ie Uni is geared to produce grads who know how to operate in an existing process, rather than how to fundamentally question and create a better process in any given field. The new β€˜building practicioner’ regulations in NSW are a case in point. It’s a β€˜tick the box and get on with it’ scenario.

I finished my architecture degree in 1991 and spent 12 months searching for work during a recession. It never gave me any β€˜security’ of employment. The shift has been that kids are now sold the idea higher education is to make you more β€˜job ready’ rather than to teach you how to think critically.

…and you also have to keep houses warm in winter. Not just a cooling thing. Heating is also critical.

Better still. Stop putting bricks on the outside of houses, where they do nothing good, and put them inside where they passively regulate the temperature by lowering heat fluctuations.

Yep. Hard to change something when you’ve frozen any changes to it. Lol

Colour reflectivity is already covered in the National Construction Code, has been for years, and has an effect on the amount of insulation required in ceilings and walls for compliance.

The major problem with ai isn’t the impact of its implementation. It’s the additional environmental impact. The energy needed to feed it (4.4%of US grid so far and increasing) water for its cooling systems, e-waste disposal due to outdated hardware systems (including toxic waste), the list goes on…

Maybe. I think the little ones have always been a thing. I suspect we sometimes take on too much, or want too much or just expect too much. Sounds unambitious, but keeping it as simple as possible but no simpler kinda philosophy seems like the key.

They aren’t mutually exclusive.

With the geopolitical paradigm shift in global trade, and China not having the age/skill demographics to service manufacturing in 10-15 years time, the β€˜Future Made in Australia’ plan could be both about jobs/votes AND be the correct move. Not one or the other.

I think you’re being too kind calling it a distraction. It’s more sinister. It’s a trap.

I think emotions might be a mechanism that evolution has promoted because they aid survival at both individual and societal levels. Fear, anger, happiness, love, compassion etc allow us to adapt to our surroundings, bond and procreate. Mass manipulation of them is just another part of survival.

It was triggered when life first began, and evolution started. The purpose is survival of the fittest. No civilisation/culture is immune and all participate. Religion, nationalism, capitalism etc are just tools that provide mass motivation to promote a genetic legacy in a world of limited resources.

I deactivated. It’s got a 30 day cool off where if you log back on it reactivates, otherwise I think it deletes forever. If you can trust SpaceKaren. So probably not. I’m trying to be disciplined about it. I had next to no followers though…glad to find most I followed are now active here.
