What is this, event #4 with wind gusts 50-60mph?
Heavy snow falling in a street light
Snow falling in a street light
Sure.
Not like it was in the mid 80s and a severe weather outbreak the other day or anything

It's been awhile since Central Missouri experienced conditions like we did Tuesday night.

A black and white photo of a very striated supercell structure below billowing towers of cotton looking cumulus. A skinny tornado throws up a dust cloud beneath a lowering on the storm. In the foreground farm fields are visible with rows of sprinklers and powerlines everywhere.
Blue sky pokes in at the top left of frame next to a UFO looking supercell structure. It has stacked areas of striations and its shape makes obvious that it is rotating in the upper winds. Above the structured portion towers of cumulus erupt skyward before billowing out as an anvil cloud. In the distance behind the storm a single lightning bolt strikes in front of some mammatus clouds. The foreground is a sliver of farmland with a few outbuildings and powerlines
Sunset ignites the cloud tops of the slowly shrinking supercell structure. Bright orange and deep purple highlight wisps and puffs in the anvil, an old occluded meso is slowly choked out by the cold air to the left of the main structure. The towering cumulus have shrunk slightly and the sculpted meso has hecome much more laminar. Even as it dies a single bolt comes out of the anvil and strikes the relatively desolate farmland below. A red building is evident in the right corner and some powerlines lead out of frame to the left.
The remnants of the updraft continue into blue hour. Stars and a meteor are evident above the anvil. The anvil is illuminated and slightly pink hued by lightning within it. A now much smaller single tower of cumulus continues to churn. A farmstead sits along a telephone pole lined road in its field.
Time for a throwback to the first real โstructure chaseโ of my career. Before this it was never something I even knew to look for, but now it is usually a high priority target. 5-16-21 Earth, TX

Iโve partnered with #Mizzou Meteorology & @ABC17Stormtrack to create a calendar supporting the Mizzou Meteorology Club!
It features my photos, weather history, and almanac data. Available soon at Hy-Vee in Columbia & Jefferson City! DM me for orders if youโre not local! #mowx

It was a spectacular showing and makes me nostalgic for when I first got into photography and was capturing Neowise (poorly) in rural Iowa!

As the name implies, the starter packs are super useful for getting started. They have definitly helped me figure out how to navigate this place!

Only if I get a job offer. My time up there this summer allowed me to see what the state had to offer so I don't feel the need to go back on my own whim.

18.10.2024 18:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Line graph time series of 2024's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with white for the 1980s, green for the 1990s, blue for the 2000s, and purple for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2002 to 2022. 2024 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between August and November by looking at the decadal average line positions.
Friday ice update - #Arctic sea ice extent is currently the 3rd lowest on record (JAXA data)

Welcome to all the weather folks who made the jump.
I've created a starter pack for #WxSky of stormchasers, meteorologists, & photographers. If you'd like to be on or off the list let me know.
You can follow all these with one click or pick and choose.

18.10.2024 17:55 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0๐PUBLISHED and open access: check out my latest paper on cell mergers and storm interactions here:
journals.ametsoc.org/view/journal...
Can the positions of nearby cells/mergers help us discriminate between tornadic, non-tornadic, and hail-producing supercells? We find evidence for "yes".
I'm still amazed by my most recent tornado sighting! I'm sitting at work in rural ND, quick glance out the window, and see a funnel cloud reaching down. It shortly touched down and stayed OTG for nearly 10 mins slowly drifting east.
I guess I didn't have to chase, the storm came to me!

It's amazing isn't it? Growing up all through high school with no one sharing similar interests. You hit college, find some of your people, then you go to conferences or online forums and see how many people are just like you in that regard. It's an amazing community!
