Can anyone advise on publishers/ journals that are open to submissions, and would be interested in travel writing, Cold War or literary based memoirs of Novella length (20 K+) or shorter excerpts.

On a similar note, Stewart Copeland, former drummer with the Police, has an interesting story to tell about his father. Don't know if this is only available on Audible.

Boats were so important that people liked to be buried with small wooden models like this, so that they could travel safely to the land of the dead.

Traces of gold suggest that the hand was entirely covered in gold leaf. X-rays show that the hand was likely that of a young adult female. The expensive gold and rings indicates the family's wealth.

The details of Eric Clapton's abhorrent racist outburst We take a look at the time when a drunken Eric Clapton said some outrageous and ignorant comments about immigrants, on stage.

He is not alone. I only recently became aware of Clapton's disgraceful '76 outburst. A huge fan, it's now difficult to listen to him. He has collaborated with lots of black music icons since, but (as you say) still. Today, he would face charges. Unbelievable!

Russia keeping close eye on Trump's claim to Greenland The Kremlin reacts to the US president-elect's remarks saying the Arctic is in Russia's sphere of interest.

Just like the carving up of Poland in 1939 by the 20th Century's 2 great dictators, is this what Trump meant by reaching a solution within 24 hrs?

"Well Vladimir, you can have Ukraine and we'll just take Greenland."

Will always associate this moment in history with turning 30, watching the live TV broadcast, as numbed Ceausescu addresses a large crowd of audible dissenters from his balcony. Not long after flames can be seen within the presidential palace.

I read it in a day. Engrossing! It just stresses that, when deterrence fails, you can respond in kind, if you have time, but it's certainly not going to save the planet. You are just getting your own back, ensuring that armageddon is comprehensive.
It could happen tomorrow, or later this afternoon.

Days that shake the world John Reed’s eyewitness account of the Russian Revolution of November 1917 illustrates the enduring themes of political change – and reminds us how contingent it can be.

Moments of political change often build very slowly then happen quickly. Last year I wrote for @engelsbergideas.bsky.social that seizing or holding power depends on information, argument, momentum, individual choices and timing:

Or 'Lee' (Lee Miller, WWII photo-journalist and a lot more). Think it's only on Sky.... and we've just cancelled all that, but have always been fascinated with her story, and she has now been given added prominence with this film.
