So migrants must study English to A level standard to be allowed to work; but degrees in English are 'worthless' and a rip off.

That's a very precise level of English proficiency being mandated.

But I think there is a responsibility here for those of us in rich nations to look at the circumstances which have led people from the global south to make that move, and to ensure our work on climate embeds social justice. A humane response needs to focus on causes as well as consequences.

I get annoyed at the narrative that all the awareness and work on climate change hasn't done anything. Yes, global CO₂ emissions indeed continue to climb, but we don't know the counterfactual. When I was in grad school, we were on track for 5°C of warming. Now it's below 3°C. That's progress.
