Thank you to the DRS for the opportunity to present our research:
Developing above cuff vocalisation safety guidance using a nominal group technique.
Thanks to my co-authors and to Atos Medical UK for funding this study.
Today's Paper of the Day is:
Airway management in patients with suspected or confirmed traumatic spinal cord injury

Join us to read 1 paper per day and stay up-to-date as we cover the spectrum of critical care across 2025
Today I did my first ever start-to-finish scope and it was with a patient who, after being all but NBM for the best part of three months, is now (safely) chowing down on fish and chips! I don't think I'll ever do a better FEES in my career ๐ #mySLTday

Other small perks that stack up:
โ
Free parking for staff
โ
All our district hospitals are an easy drive away, being either just off the M4 or A470
โ
Canteens with both hot & cold options (I love me a ยฃ3 fresh salad from the buffet)
โ
South Wales is STUNNING, even in winter
Staff wellbeing is a significant priority, with an excellent wellbeing service provided by the health board, regular wellbeing hours for AHPs & our own small team wellbeing initiatives, including outdoor walks to break up the day & Fry-up Fridaysโข! ๐ณ๐ฅ๐ฅ

Meet Ianto, Ragnar and Myfi, who take it in turns to visit our critical care units every week.
Our patients adore them and staff are also highly encouraged to give ear scratches and belly rubs ๐
(Photos shared with permission.)
Both our small crit care team & the wider SLT team are highly supportive, with frequent opportunities for both scheduled & ad hoc clinical supervision & general support.
There are also regular opportunities for internal & external training, including our bi-monthly CPD Cafรฉs! ๐ค
We have great (and timely!) access to both VFSS and FEES, optimising the care we offer our patients ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ providing plenty of opportunities for upskilling our therapists! ๐

We're looking for the 3rd & final member of our crit care team!
This is a B7 post ๐ฏ๐๐, if you're a B6 that doesn't have all the pre-requisites, we can offer this as a 6โ7 development post & train you up ๐คฏ
But wait, there's even more reasons to work with us! ๐งต
Asking my colleagues if they have โscopeโ to do a FEES with me or if a FEES is โFEES-ibleโ are my absolute favourite puns and I get to use them multiple times a week ๐ค #bestjobever
(Bonus points when a FEES is "instrumental" in forming a management plan for a patient!)
I can't recommend this doc about a young man with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and his vast online life enough.
It also emphasises how important the amazing work of charities like @specialeffect.bsky.social can be in augmenting people's social lives โ it's not "just" playing video games!
