Wemyss Malts – A QuarterΒ Passed The whisky drinking community is such a friendly and generous place. It has been a huge bastion of optimism and kindness over the last ten years. It has been a great source of friendship and has presented me with some money-can’t-buy (or at least I can’t afford) whiskies. Steve at The Whisky Wire has run over a decade of online tastings, and they have all been educational, informative, and fun.

Thanks to @thewhiskywire.bsky.social for arranging tonight’s tasting, and I’ve enjoyed them all, as I expected too. There’s a good range of drams there, showcasing what #WemyssMalts bottle.

🏁 - Long side of medium in length for me. And again, all the bulk palate flavours continue for the duration. For a blended malt this also stands with many single malts, this is what happens when whisky folk know what they’re doing. It’s rather nice, and a very fair price for it imho. #WemyssMalts

11.02.2026 20:31 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

πŸ‘… - Initially it’s spicy and peaty, but overpowering on either side. Yes there’s peat, it’s medicinal, but nose as strong as the nose was. Spices range from bitter lemon to cardamom, star anise, and coffee grinds. Toffee and caramel come along too, a whiff of smoke also for me. #wemyssMalts

πŸ‘ƒ - Yes, peat, with germoline. But it’s no one trick pony. It comes with brown sauce, cooked bacon, with a honey glaze. It’s dusty and sooty, with peaches and lychees, bring a lovely fruitiness to the mix. #WemyssMalts

It’s time to move onto our fourth and final dram of the night and a very old favourite of ours from their core collection; Wemyss Malts – Peat Chimney. What does this dish up and deliver on the nose? #WemyssMalts #Scotch #Whisky

11.02.2026 20:09 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 5

Thoughts - Nice nose, lovely palate and finish. For me it’s nicely rounded, and flavourful, and it does last quite some time on the palate. It’s a rather nice dram imho πŸ‘Œ . #WemyssMalts

11.02.2026 20:07 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

🏁 - Again quite a long finish, and the spiciness lasts all the way through. Vanilla crown pastry, the bobbly sweets in a bag of liquorice allsorts, and darker fruits, like those from a Sherry cask. #WemyssMalts

11.02.2026 20:05 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

πŸ‘… - Initial thought is, nice mouthfeel, followed by, big palate, plenty of spices, from white pepper and lemon sorbet, through to chocolate ginger biscuits. The spices are building too. It’s definitely outdoorsy, coastal, wet pebbles, perhaps a hint of salinity on there too. #WemyssMalts

11.02.2026 20:03 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

For me this has the strongest nose so far of the first three, let’s hope the palate is good. #WemyssMalts

πŸ‘ƒ - Another nice nose here. I’m getting more than a whiff of smoke in this dram too. Damp leaf litter, honey, balsa wood, stewed pairs, and right at the back is a lovely sweetness that stands alone, possibly cream soda atm. #WemyssMalts

Thoughts - I like this, it’s another rather good dram, and easily sits at 12yo+. There’s a lot in it that’s for sure. #WemyssMalts
