Multiple drafts of emails even! Reading them out loud for clarity and emphasis!
Turns out this is exceptional.

Hey so โ€œunderage girlsโ€ areโ€ฆchildren. The word youโ€™re looking for is children. Theyโ€™re not like, women-in-waiting or women-lite or whatever. Theyโ€™re children. I think some of you are very uncomfortable with what that means for you but it is still true.

I love Alexander McCall Smith's series (No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Scotland Street, etc) as there's an underlying belief in people's kindness. The fact that every Scotland street book ends with poem about community and love. That Mma Ramotwse often offers forgiveness rather than punishment.

Tweet by Matthew, @MrWeir: "I once wore a silver jacket to college, turned up late for class, said 'sorry I'm late', lecturer said, 'that's ok' then waited til I was halfway across the front of the full class before following up with 'trouble with the spaceship again was it?'.

Yes there's a lot of denial, but I've seen it: when it snaps, it snaps hard.

"Powerful men covered up child sex abuse" isn't outlandish when you've seen that happen in church, boy scouts, school athletics, and every other social pillar of your conservative middle-class life in the past few decades.

Submorpheme: a spelling pattern that carries meaning.
Gl = light, shine
glow: a soft, steady light
gloss: a shiny or polished surface
glaze: a shiny coating or surface
glint: a quick flash of light
glare: a strong, bright, often blinding light
glass: a clear material that lets light pass through
glisten: to shine with reflected light
glimmer: a faint, flickering light
glitter: tiny bits that sparkle with light
gleam: a brief or faint shine

It drives me crazy that people act like phonics will fix everything. Phonics in English is a joke. I've spent the last 20 years trying to teach kids from all language backgrounds to read in English. There needs to be a robust use of strategies to help *all* readers. Here's a great example:

In the US, law enforcement isn't just legally allowed to lie to you, they're ENCOURAGED to. OTOH, your lawyer is legally prohibited from lying to you and can lose her license for it.

Which of those professions, though, do you reflexively associate more with lying?

You're not immune to copaganda.

The week Morgan Wallen's album came out was probably the biggest "well, that's all bots" thing I've ever seen on Spotify. Every. Single. Playlist. had like two or three songs from the album. The Latvian charts had his songs on it. I'm sorry, Latvians aren't listening to Morgan Wallen.

homer simpson from the simpsons is standing in front of a grassy field . Alt: The well-known gif of Homer Simpson with a blank look on his face, slowly walking backwards and disappearing into a hedge. The way it is animated is really funny because it looks like he's slowly being enveloped by the greenery. At one point all you can see is his eyes, his nose and his belly.

This is my standard example. This is the alt-text they suggested: "homer simpson from the simpsons is standing in front of a grassy field."
Not only does it completely misunderstand the context, it actually doesn't register the motion or action being performed.

FedEx bill for $150

FedEx bill for $150

Paid a Colombian tea grower $1,500 for a shipment. Got billed $150 by the Trump administration at the border. *I* got billed. Not the tea growers. Not the Colombian government. Me. The American business owner. I paid the Trump tax.

This is what I try to always tell people: food banks can do way more with your money than you can, due to bulk buying deals. And they can do way, way more with your money than with the canned goods you didnโ€™t want to eat

It's sad because the article about Ruby Rose commenting made it seem like at the start there were a lot of queer crรฉatives involved who were pushed out.

In a significantly weirder case, "Sleeping Lady with Black Vase" is a 1928 oil painting by Rรณbert Berรฉny. It was lost in WWII, and considered looted by the Nazis and likely destroyed afterwards in the chaos... until someone recognized it as set dressing in the movie "Stuart Little."

Yes, really.

"Shut up and make some drums" that led to Metroboomin's BBL Drizzy still makes me LOL and also shakes me because when that dropped *everyone* was doing something with it: Japanese rap, a sitar player, small children etc.

Yesterday I was picking up coffee and one of the young people behind the bar was doing a whole "we're in the Matrix, birds don't exist" rant semi-ironically and their peer replied with "I can understand why you're upset. It takes you a long time to read." I had to go laugh outside...

"What's the point of standards?"
This feels so much like when you have politicians trying to force education reforms based on trendy podcasts and it's obvious they literally have no concept of the profession or any of the reasons standards and policies existed in the first place.

Charlotte Parlermino had a great video about how this launch was soaked in MAHA "no toxic" coded language, basically all the stuff that health scams use to scare parents into buying completely unregulated products that will harm their kids.

Has he never transited at Heathrow, like ever? The signs are the same no matter what terminal you come in.
That's like being mad at a Stop sign and insisting the somehow the Stop sign did not say Stop when in fact he was probably just on his phone and followed whoever was in front of him.

Climate disinformation is on the rise because of COP30. Please be weary of any/all climate information you see online right now โ€” especially around climate solutions. Bad actors are working overtime to make it look these solutions are worthless.

This ends up be a uniquely bad idea for all the reasons you listed. I also wonder about insurance as well. Tesla is not only a target (no one is going out of their way to hate Nissans) but also known for being catastrophic in case of a crash. Will insurance companies cover a rental like this?

Lots of hard, shitty lessons being learned from this presidency. And one of the many I hope you're learning is, white supremacy is incompatible with reality, and cannot exist without historical revisionism.

Iโ€™ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.

It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.
