Labour has not implemented a single animal welfare pledge, say campaigners Ban on foie gras imports and hunting trophies not brought in, while rules protecting chickens have been weakened Labour has failed to implement any of its promised animal welfare policies in its first year in office and also weakened protections for chickens, campaigners have said. Among the pledges that have not been implemented are banning the sale of animals with cropped ears, prohibiting imports of hunting trophies and banning imports of foie gras. Some relate to the UK as a whole, others to England, Wales and Scotland and the proposed ban on trail hunting just to England and Wales. End illegal puppy farming and the smuggling of animals including dogs, puppies and kittens. Prohibit the importation of dogs and cats with fashion-based mutilations. Ban the use of snare traps. Ban the importation of heavily pregnant cats and dogs. Accelerate the phasing out of animal testing. Continue reading...

Britain can't manage like this A cultural aversion to management is undermining our economy

Super piece by @joxley.jmoxley.co.uk here.

The number of terrible leaders/managers I've seen that, at best, have 'fallen into' management and are muddling through or, at worst, value heroic individualism above all else is replicated across sectors.

Ask courageous questions. Do not be satisfied with superficial answers. Be open to wonder and at the same time subject all claims to knowledge, without exception, to critical scrutiny. Be aware of human fallibility. Cherish your species and your planet.

Who are the Zizians? What we know about vegan 'cult' linked to six killings A US border patrol agent and a landowner stabbed 50 times are among alleged victims of the group.

"Forty-two years ago, for reasons beyond my comprehension, David Lynch plucked me out of obscurity to star in his first and last big budget movie. He clearly saw something in me that even I didnโ€™t recognize. I owe my entire career, and life really, to his vision.

What I saw in him was an enigmatic and intuitive man with a creative ocean bursting forth inside of him. He was in touch with something the rest of us wish we could get to.

Our friendship blossomed on Blue Velvet and then Twin Peaks and I always found him to be the most authentically alive person Iโ€™d ever met.

David was in tune with the universe and his own imagination on a level that seemed to be the best version of human. He was not interested in answers because he understood that questions are the drive that make us who we are. They are our breath.

While the world has lost a remarkable artist, Iโ€™ve lost a dear friend who imagined a future for me and allowed me to travel in worlds I could never have conceived on my own.

I can see him now, standing up to greet me in his backyard, with a warm smile and big hug and that Great Plains honk of a voice. Weโ€™d talk coffee, the joy of the unexpected, the beauty of the world, and laugh.

His love for me and mine for him came out of the cosmic fate of two people who saw the best things about themselves in each other.

I will miss him more than the limits of my language can tell and my heart can bear. My world is that much fuller because I knew him and that much emptier now that heโ€™s gone.

David, I remain forever changed, and forever your Kale. Thank you for everything."

The utterly plausible case that climate change makes London much colder [FREE TO READ] For some climate scientists, global warming threatens Britain with a more unexpected scenario

To predict the future, you need both science and imagination.

Britain is cold today. But there is a real chance that global warming could make it dramatically colder, even as much of the world gets hotter.

How is that possible? This article tries to explain: on.ft.com/4ja9vti
