The aesthetic turn in dentistry really belies the fact that all dentistry, including orthodontics, is healthcare first & foremost. Good practitioners emphasize that. Hucksters selling you aligners on Instagram do not.

I learned the hard way.

It also didn’t require an x-ray to look at the integrity of the tooth & bone beforehand.

Sad part is that my smile actually LOOKS better now but the aligners jumped from one position to the next too fast & my teeth never actually set which caused real damage.

Invisalign should be fine because it’s designed & implemented under the direct supervision of an orthodontist. SDC basically worked under the assumption that moving teeth is actually very easy (it is!) but put everyone on a template treatment that didn’t account for individual anatomy.

I got smiledirectclub aligners 10 years ago & they fucked up my jaw so badly I need a tooth extraction, a bone graft, & an implant put in. I might still need braces after that.

I cannot imagine what guys breaking their jaws on purpose will be dealing with for the rest of their lives.

As someone with ongoing jaw bone problems due to several dental mishaps that’s resulting in major surgery this year, I cannot fathom fucking with your jaw like this. The pain I experience sometimes is debilitating. They’re signing themselves up for a lifetime of absolutely hell.
