LAX’s “roadway modernization plan” is 18+ miles of new roadway, encouraging more people to drive to LAX, despite billions of dollars of investment in a people mover and rail connectivity.

It will also make getting into the central terminal area hostile to pedestrians & cyclists.

I’d rather have clean, safe, reliable transit that comes often, than fare free transit.

“I don't think there's enough bike advocates in almost any North American city to pass a bike-specific ballot measure on its own. I think you have to reach out and explain the benefits to the larger population. It can't just be about bikes.” 🚸 @michaelschneider.com @streetsforall.org

“I thought I would get a new car. Instead, I started biking around. I was never in traffic. I never had to look for parking, and I felt like I had hacked my city and couldn't believe it was a legal and fun way to get around that I had just never known.” 🚴🏿🚴🏻‍♂️🚴🏽‍♀️ @michaelschneider.com @streetsforall.org

Want to never be in traffic in LA?
Use a bike!

In this case, an electric cargo bike.

Human Scale Cities How urban design affects the psychology and social fabric of a society

“We talk about climate change, housing shortages, mental health, or polarization as separate problems. But they share a common root: the way we design cities. If you design for cars, you get traffic. If you design for people, you get life.”

LA28's plan for a car-free Olympics now includes air taxis the price of a high-end Uber At the LA28 Olympic Games, electric air taxis will transport attendees between key venues including SoFi Stadium and LAX — all for the price of a luxury ride share.

“Car free Olympics”

Paris:
- rail with good headways
- bus rapid transit with good headways
- protected bike lane network

LA:
Forget all that old stuff we haven’t tried, we need flying taxis!

Congestion pricing has improved life in New York City by: reducing cars on the street, speeding traffic (especially at peak hours), speeding buses and making them more reliable, expanding transit ridership, reducing car crashes, reducing noise complaints, and increasing the number of visitors.

NYC’s congestion pricing is a policy miracle: Less traffic, less noise, faster transit, more business sales, more transit revenue. And it hasn’t produced the negative effects outside the cordon zone we were afraid of.

Contributor: Don't let the mayor's budget make our streets even worse The current proposal represents a dystopian nightmare for our streets, sidewalks and public transportation system.

I wrote something about Mayor Bass’ proposed budget

“Do we want to live in a city where we can’t safely walk to the park because the sidewalks are too broken and the streetlights are out, and the park’s hours have been reduced because of staffing cuts?”

We're going to try and get flying cars before we truly invest in bike lanes, bus lanes, and electric rail in California. 🤦
