If we want to understand the ambition of the White House, we must return to this little-known story: that of international extractivism pushed to its extreme, of which Trump is now seeking to write a new chapter which, if he succeeds, could prove to be even more extreme.

The main objective of the Trumpist expedition lies elsewhere: to resume the exploitation of Venezuelan oil wealth for the benefit of great American fortunes, an exploitation which had reached a first peak in the 1950s, during this "golden age" mythologized by the MAGA movement.

It is indeed oil that constitutes the essential motive for this power grab: the seizure and extraction of the world's largest reserves of black gold, long exploited with unprecedented profitability by American multinationals and their shareholders.
