β–ͺ️ Lift the puberty blockers ban
β–ͺ️ Reject EHRC guidance
β–ͺ️ Legislate to ensure single-sex spaces are trans-inclusive by default.

Posting this from my speech at the Trans Day of Remembrance vigil, because yet again trans women and girls are being excluded from their spaces.

With 4.5 million children currently living in poverty in the UK, it’s clear that the depth and scale of the crisis is immense. Our solutions must match this reality.

In the sixth-richest country in the world, no child should be in poverty. [4/4]

The strategy is encouraging and takes important steps in the right direction, but as leading charities argue, the government could be far more ambitious and it could set out a 10-year plan. [3/4]

It has also pledged Β£8 million to end the use of B&B accommodation for families beyond the six-week limit, and Β£950 million to deliver up to 5000 high-quality homes for better temporary accommodation. [2/4]

The government has today announced its long-awaited child poverty strategy, setting out plans to lift more than 550,000 children out of poverty by 2030.

Alongside removing the two-child benefit cap, the government will make childcare more accessible for families on Universal Credit. [1/4]

Last week, I spoke at a Notts TUC event on how to combat Reform UK and the far-right.

I criticised the government’s latest immigration policies and stressed that more than ever, the trade union movement must stand firmly united in the face of rising hate towards migrants.

It was great to meet politics students at Nottingham Trent University to talk about my journey into politics and my role as an MP. We also discussed a range of important issues, including the genocide in Gaza, child poverty, and disability rights.

We heard from those directly affected about how unmet SEND needs, mental health problems and trauma affected their child's attendance.

Criminalising mothers just causes financial hardship and mental distress without addressing the root causes. We need a support-first approach instead.

Rape victims in England and Wales to be protected from β€˜serial liar’ trope in legal shake-up Exclusive: New laws will also curb questioning and aim to stop complainants being discredited over previous reports

I commend the government for taking this hugely important step, alongside Β£550m funding for specialist support services. These are the policies we need more of.

We all desperately want to clear the courts backlog seeing victims withdraw from the criminal justice process.

But the backlog was caused by chronic underfunding, not juries.

Restricting jury trials would undermine our democracy and right to a fair trial, and may even be a false economy.

On World AIDS Day, I welcome the government’s HIV Action Plan to tackle stigma and end new transmissions in England by 2030.

We should ensure this promise is delivered by reaching the most marginalised communities.

We must also boost international funding to maintain global progress against AIDS.

When bad bosses can unfairly dismiss workers from day one, workers must be protected from day one. That’s what we promised in our manifesto.

A Labour government must not turn its back on the very people we were elected to represent.

It’s the first of its kind in the UK and serves as an excellent example of a preventive, community-based service that could be implemented nationwide.

The government is finally scrapping the cruel two-child benefit cap.

This decision is long overdue, but I’m relieved for the 450,000 children who will be lifted out of poverty by the end of Parliament.

Today’s announcement wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless work of campaigners.

Muslims in the UK continue to face hate crimes, fuelled by Islamophobic and anti-migrant rhetoric from far-right politicians and the media.

This Islamophobia Awareness Month, we stand in solidarity with our Muslim friends and neighbours. We must always challenge the normalisation of such hatred.

I’m pleased that this government has committed to halving violence against women and girls in the UK within a decade.

What we need now is a clear, comprehensive VAWG strategy that sets out how.

On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we must commit to funding trauma-informed services, making the criminal justice system fit for purpose, and driving systemic change to end male violence.

The Tories cut 70% of youth services funding in less than a decade.

Now, many young people have retreated online, which is impacting their mental health and puts them at risk of radicalisation.

A wealth tax can help fund mass investment in the youth services we desperately need.

For the lowest paid workers it will be 15, while the wealthiest will be allowed to settle in just 3 years.

This is openly classist. It will remove what little stability people have and it will harm integration. 2/2

It will also double the period to qualify for settled status from 5 years to 10. 1/2

Article which reads:

Trans people could be asked about whether they should be accessing single-sex services based on their physical appearance or behaviour, according to proposed new guidance seen by the BBC.

A code of practice, produced by the Equalities watchdog and awaiting ministerial approval, says it may be legitimate for businesses or services to ask people to provide confirmation they are of the eligible sex "by proportionate means"

This is a dark and dangerous path.

The government has said it won’t be rushed, and I sincerely hope this means that Ministers will reject any EHRC guidance that further harms trans people.

Parliament should instead make clear in legislation that β€œsingle-sex spaces” are to be trans-inclusive.

This #TransgenderDayOfRememberance, we remember the over 280 trans people killed globally this year and the many more lost to suicide.

They deserved to live safely, without fear, and to be fully who they are.

May their memories move us to keep fighting for a world where all trans people are free.

Police arrest 28 people at Palestine Action protest in city centre There were dozens of police officers in attendance at the protest

Extremely concerned to see mass arrests of peaceful protesters in Nottingham under anti-terror laws.

This is why I opposed Palestine Action's proscription. Conflating terrorism and protest will only continue eroding our rights to free speech.

This is who the government is trying to copy with its anti-refugee policies.

The government claims it wants to stop small boats crossing the Channel, yet its new policies will make it harder for refugees to bring their spouses and children safely. This will push more women and children onto dangerous dinghies.

I asked the Home Secretary if this is really what she supports.
