Two seal point domestic shorthair cats watch a black greyhound, who is lounging on a blanket on the other side of a chainlink fence
Our greyhound was being bothered by flies in the back yard the other night and the neighbor cats thought it was great fun to watch her very long tail swing around

Pretty cool to see a flock of juvenile loons on a metro lake last night.

Iβve been having a few too many conversations like this. Them: Hi Kate, how are things with your work, with the world? Me: the university is under attack, democratic norms being broken in half, so, pretty bad. Them: But everything is going to come back and be okay after the midterms. Me: Uhh, no.

My grill caught on fire once. Some grease leaked out, creating a trail of flames which started burning the plastic wheels. Luckily I had a very small extinguisher in the house and was able to locate it quickly. Without that it surely would have spread to the house within seconds.

Interesting story. I have caught many 'dogfish' in my life, never eaten them. What causes the meat to go bad so quickly? Is this true even if promptly iced?

5) We ate well from the garden, too. Green beans, tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, cabbage, onion, garlic, and herbs

4) Our neighborhood Buy Nothing group put on a free "sale" this weekend and we spent a few hours riding around on bikes finding "treasures". Thankful for the community, the generosity, having nice bikes to ride, and the improving air qualityπ

A black greyhound showing the good side of her injured tail
3) Our greyhound's tail is mostly healed after getting pinched in a storm door a month ago. At our weekly hound walk this morning, everyone was so kind and not grossed out at all by her maimed tail (good side pictured here)

2) Grilled a venison roast from the deer I harvested last year. Wasn't sure if it would be tender enough for the cooking method but it was perfect. So grateful for the sustenance it continues to provide

A very friendly orange tabby who came to greet us in the blueberry patch
It was a good week, despite all the terrible things: 1) We were invited to pick blueberries at a farm we used to purchase from but is now undergoing generational transition. The property is currently neglected but we had a lovely time and came home with lots of delicious fruit. Also met a new friend

Rear portion of a black greyhound who has white tippy toes and a white-tipped tail
One month ago our greyhound suffered a horrific tail injury. We were facing amputation but the vet supported our goal to work toward healing. Happy to report a healthy, full-length tail remains, however the opposite side is not so photogenic!
