A view of Paris from an airline: one can see the Eiffel Tower and La Defense in the distance.
A fountain inside a waiting hall at Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris.
On the home stretch now, finally. Got stranded in Paris somehow but managed to get on one of the last flights out. Bag is still in Iceland though and this national carrier hasn’t exactly excelled in all of this… not keen on airports for a little while I think.

A snowy street lamp lit street leading up to Hallgrímskirkja.
A car parked at the side of the road with a lot of snow on the roof and around.
Hallgrímskirkja lit with some pink lights, as seen from the side behind snowy trees.
Hallgrímskirkja in all its snowy and pinkly lit glory from the front.
Spent a long day waiting for various other things in various other queues. Finally transferred to a lovely hotel in the middle of Reykjavik and went for a very refreshing evening walk. Fingers crossed I’ll make it to the European mainland tomorrow.

The view from inside a plane through a window is impaired by snow on the outside.
On the way back from Greenland, currently snowed in at Keflavik Airport in Iceland.
Watched a film on the plane while it was waiting to be de-iced, only to be asked to leave the plane after 2 hours. At least I finished the film, it was good.

Onkalo, the Finnish solution for radioactive waste is finally taking the first nuclear byproducts.
Fascinating piece. I first heard about this back in 2008 when they were studying ice sheet effects on geology in Greenland. Because it has to be secure for 100,000 years..

A report out today in the AFR suggests that “Australia’s biggest aluminium smelter, Tomago, has started a consultation process with employees on the plant’s potential closure".
The reason for the possible closure? Energy prices and it's electricity supply contract.

This is indeed a crucial and so far largely neglected aspect about all types of geoengineering: the necessary politics for an ethical governance to govern the deployment of these technologies is not there. If they were, climate governance wouldn’t be the mess it is.

New study by Falkena et al. shows that most climate models
don’t capture the established key mechanism that can destabilize the North Atlantic subpolar gyre. Those models that get it predict abrupt subpolar gyre changes in coming decades 😳.

As Europe rearms, Nordic Investment Bank pushes further into defense - ArcticToday
Nordic Investment Bank expands into defence lending after policy shifts, as Europe boosts spending amid war, rearmament, and NATO pressure.
“The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB), co-owned by the Nordic and Baltic countries, has historically focused on climate, innovation and productivity projects. But after a board decision last year, it is now redirecting part of its €36 billion portfolio into security and defense.”
