I love books on fictional places from Lake Wobegon to Llareggub. I came across Leo Walmsley’s work via the 1935 film ‘Turn of the Tide’ and ‘Bramblewick’ which turns out to be based on Robin Hood’s Bay. I love the cover too, so nicely worn, the font, the design, it deserves to live face forwards.

it’s such an absorbing read! And I haven’t even started on how much I love Ghost Town (re-read twice and now listening to the audiobook version). Great writing.

Feels like a good day to be elsewhere, so here I am sharing the books on my bedside table… the Neil Innes biography (joyful & bittersweet), catching up on American Poetry 2024 and relishing @wildtwin.bsky.social Jeff Young’s ‘Wild Twin’, a dream-like road movie of a book. Good books to get lost in.
