A closer look at the ANU books reveals a hard truth about these job cuts The phantom deficit and a series of cuts by choice, not necessity.

"So, how do you turn a $90 million surplus into a $142.5 million deficit?

Easy. You just exclude nearly a quarter of a billion dollars of revenue that the auditor thought should be included."

President Trump Participates in a Roundtable on Antifa President Trump holds a roundtable meeting on Antifa.

Right now, Donald Trump, Kash Patel, Kristi Noem, and other officials are participating in a panel about "Antifa," threatening to "destroy the entire organization [sic] from top to bottom."

This is a good time to revisit our guide to preparing for repression:

Worth remembering that SEAM was abandoned by the federal Coalition government not just because of human rights concerns.

But also the evaluations showed that it "didn't work" in terms of creating the outcomes that the government wanted to see.

This dead policy should not have been resurrected.

That's the definition of fascism from Robert Paxton, one of the preeminent historians of the subject, from his book ANATOMY OF FASCISM which came out more than two decades ago.

ANU interim vice chancellor today announced no more forced redundancies under the Renew ANU program. Cuts are ongoing, but forced redundancies are off the table. It’s been a hard slog. Harms are ongoing. There’s still more work to do. I’m so proud of my colleagues, ANU community.

Jaw-dropping response from the CASS Dean. Appears to be a misinterpretation of the WHS provisions and cease work direction. The WHS direction covers all CASS work. The WHS direction is about keeping people safe from serious and imminent risks to health and safety.

Because university councils appoint their own successors, they’re self-perpetuating.

That means:
❌ Little accountability
❌ Risks of groupthink
❌ Weak incentives to prioritise research & teaching

It’s governance without a functioning accountability loop. Misaligned incentives breed problems.
