Has Fergie ever apologized for any of those transfers? I certainly don't remember it (my memory is far from foolproof at this point) but have seen him justify all 3 of those for different reasons....especially Becks and Big Paul.

Agree with this. It's definitely an area of weakness which will need significant investment in the summer (maybe £200m). I'm happy its been better in recent weeks as Amorim has tweaked the system.

I agree with a lot of the above, the club has been a mess for a long time. Many of the players aren't good enough to feature in a side with real title aspirations...and yet I still believe Amorim has done a very poor job. 34 points from 33 league matches is untenable.

The going broke stories were OTT but I get the impression they learned that the club were spending beyond their means in a non-sustainable manner.

There's some truth in this...when the financial mess at the club started to come to light publicly in Dec/Jan, it became clear that Ineos a) didn't know our precarious financial position when they named RA or b) didn't believe RA would require such a significant squad overhaul.
