I had it in both feet. And it was so terrible, I took to calling it plantar fascism. The worst. Kettlebell workouts twice a week gave me relief in under two months. When you do it barefoot, you grab the ground with your toes as you sling the bell around. And strengthen support muscles too. It works.

I struggled for years with plantar fasciitis. Did everything expensive and cheap short of surgery- OTC inserts, custom inserts, different shoes, shockwave therapy, massage, PT, fascia scraping, cortisone injections, stretching, etc. The thing that finally worked... barefoot kettlebell workouts.

Learned from a student's paper today, that I apparently published a book with Duke in 2020 on colonial Mexico. πŸ˜‚ I guess I can finally go up for Full Professor.

And each prompt submitted to an LLM further interpellates the user to this structural relation.

We're witnessing the desire to move beyond the transition from direct compulsion to mute compulsion to the liberation of capital accumulation from labor altogether. This decidedly is not a liberation of human labor.

The LLM and the AI boom is an expression of capital's desire to free itself from its dependence on labor, from the impossibility of fully subsuming the reproduction of labor power.

I don’t use bookmarks or fold down pages. But I do write and highlight all over the books I read. Never seems to be hard to find where I left off.

Not just me. The pilot came on to say, "I've been flying for 42 years, and that's the roughest I've had."

The statement doesn’t even really address the resolution on attacks on education. Completely ineffectual.

Were the early Humanities Computing folks in the late 60s and 70s more likely to be appointed in linguistics departments rather than InfoSci?

Most of the YouTube review of my year was completely off, neglected all the subscriptions I watch, and clearly slop. But I'll give it this... I do have perfect travel bags (as a transcontinental commuter) and I do have films to recommend for most occasions.

However the rest of the film aged, Harry Connick Jr's soundtrack to When Harry Met Sally is still fantastic.

"academic publishing is dominated by profit-oriented, multinational companies for whom scientific knowledge is a commodity to be sold back to the academic community who created it... The dominant four collectively generated... $12 billion in profits between 2019 and 2024."

Baggage in the main cabin doesn’t help that. You can see it in CRJs that require gate checking carryons. Boarding and deboarding are always much faster.

Some airlines chase raw passenger numbers, others chase high yield passengers. Either would be better by making on time arrival the primary objective.

All of it is from the attempt to squeeze as much as possible out of the flying public, and puts enormous stress on gate agents, cleaning crews, FAs, and pilots.

Understaffed ground crews, operational and maintenance delays, cascading delays, etc were all a part of it before the ATC shortages and weather problems.

This Fall has been terrible, even before the shut down. On-time arrival is the stat that I care about the most, especially as airlines have encouraged shorter and shorter layovers as the norm.

As an air-road warrior, commuting between California and Tennessee weekly, the selfish part of me wishes we had the reverseβ€” free underseat bag, charge of overhead bin space, free checked bags.

They’re also freeing space below for cargo. Which isn’t an excuse, but part or discouraging people from checking bags.

On my first flight today, my seatmate spent half the flight writing an email with chatGPT. Prompt, read the result, re-write the prompt, read the result, re-write the prompt, and on and on. Like, dude, just write the email. High level HR manager or some such.

Even moving the time frame to the mid-19th c configures the story to be a tale of the Victorian bourgeois family drama.

It's interesting to me that del Toro essentially removed the class panic from Frankenstein and replaced it with a thoroughly oedipal interpretation.

The one thing the new Frankenstein is really missing is a catchy rendition of Putting on the Ritz.

I would send separate emails for every single point in every lecture in any way tangentially related to the topics, and when a point doesn’t get cleared, put CENSORED on the slide and show all of them to class.
