08.02.2026 19:02 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0It’s insane that people fight against everything that makes a city vibrant—they fight bike lanes, pedestrian infra, housing, street vendors. We could all be living in our own version of paradise, eating well, walking, socializing, living comfortably.

literally everytime they block the bike lane, 5th ave looks like this

They basically refuse to make deliveries on 5th ave as it is and insist on parking in the J st bike lane or double parking blocking half of Island Ave anyway.
08.02.2026 18:46 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Can we apply this logic to cars? Neighborhood pre-dates cars, wasn’t designed for cars, therefore no cars should be allowed?

tbf, they also planted some new trees to replace the ones they cut down for no reason 😵💫
I walk a lot and the times I've almost been hit by careless drivers has skyrocketed since Covid. Twice I've almost been hit by cabs turning right without stopping on a red. Once I had to use my "Dad Voice" to stop my son from crossing on a green because a driver just blasted through the red. 😡
08.02.2026 16:56 — 👍 11 🔁 3 💬 1 📌 1This happens everywhere. Restaurants on 5th Ave in San Diego were angry when the city took away the promenade bollards. An entire block of businesses even in Southern California wanted their street closed to cars once they experienced it.

08.02.2026 06:26 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Keep this in mind when people claim cars mean business — closing Central #Madrid to cars over holidays resulted in a 9.5% boost in retail spending on its main shopping street: STUDY.
There was also a 71% drop in air pollution.

“OUR city isn’t [insert name of a much more livable & successful city here].”
Trust me, we know that. It’s abundantly obvious that you’re not that city.
That city made, and continues to make, much better choices with fewer excuses.
The real question is, do you want YOUR city to be better or not?

Metrolink train at the San Clemente Pier. Tall gangly palm trees judging us all from on high.
Beach from a train window.
Finally took Metrolink! We took it Union Station to San Clemente Pier. No cars involved.
Felt like I was in Europe! But with more sun.

Watching Secret Mall Apartment on Netflix and pleasantly surprised to find out it was an urbanist, pro-community art project that arose in opposition to car-centric mall development.

Another driver hit a daycare
Probably because the daycare :
❌ Didn't wear a high-vis vest 🦺
❌ Didn't wear a helmet 🪖
❌ Didn't look into the eyes of the driver 👀
❌ Didn't wave at the driver 👋🏻
Bollards will be installed to block other drivers
