Just had 2 drivers run 2 separate red lights in front of me walking only 5 blocks down 13th st.

I think the explanatory difference between countries is that the other countries enforce against cell phone driving

It’s insane that people fight against everything that makes a city vibrant—they fight bike lanes, pedestrian infra, housing, street vendors. We could all be living in our own version of paradise, eating well, walking, socializing, living comfortably.

well it's selection bias, but the selection mechanism is people being hit by large front ends are more likely to be killed

empty parking on 5th ave around the corner from where truck was blocking the bike lane

literally everytime they block the bike lane, 5th ave looks like this

truck blocking j st bike lane instead of parking on 5th Ave which was empty

They basically refuse to make deliveries on 5th ave as it is and insist on parking in the J st bike lane or double parking blocking half of Island Ave anyway.

Can we apply this logic to cars? Neighborhood pre-dates cars, wasn’t designed for cars, therefore no cars should be allowed?

I walk a lot and the times I've almost been hit by careless drivers has skyrocketed since Covid. Twice I've almost been hit by cabs turning right without stopping on a red. Once I had to use my "Dad Voice" to stop my son from crossing on a green because a driver just blasted through the red. 😡

This happens everywhere. Restaurants on 5th Ave in San Diego were angry when the city took away the promenade bollards. An entire block of businesses even in Southern California wanted their street closed to cars once they experienced it.

That's terrifying! I'm sorry that happened to you!

“OUR city isn’t [insert name of a much more livable & successful city here].”

Trust me, we know that. It’s abundantly obvious that you’re not that city.

That city made, and continues to make, much better choices with fewer excuses.

The real question is, do you want YOUR city to be better or not?

Santa Monica/West L.A. Leaders Urge Caltrans to Build “Ohio to Ohio” Bike Link With Santa Monica Boulevard Rehab - Streetsblog Los Angeles While Westside officials are pushing Caltrans to add some needed bike infrastructure, their logic contradicts the City of L.A.'s efforts to dodge implementing Measure HLA.

“A growing chorus of elected officials representing Santa Monica are pressing Caltrans to stop treating bike safety as an afterthought and instead deliver a long-planned protected bicycle connection at the same time it repaves Santa Monica Boulevard.”

Opinion: 'Density' is not a dirty word.  Stop trying to make it one. Opponents of high-density housing have tried to turn the term into a dirty word. But Midway Rising shows how it can be a city's secret sauce.

Urban planning professor defends Midway Rising (4,200 units, half affordable, near transit) after court blocked it over height limits.

The debate is about whether a 50-year-old parking lot around an arena becomes a walkable village or stays auto sprawl.

Watching Secret Mall Apartment on Netflix and pleasantly surprised to find out it was an urbanist, pro-community art project that arose in opposition to car-centric mall development.

Nithya is the exact candidate we need to fix LA’s incompetence and NIMBYism.

She could be a zohran-level candidate who creates a new consensus around progressive urbanism

Parents, child-care workers call for improved road safety measures after daycare crash
YouTube video by CBC British Columbia Parents, child-care workers call for improved road safety measures after daycare crash

Another driver hit a daycare

Probably because the daycare :
❌ Didn't wear a high-vis vest 🦺
❌ Didn't wear a helmet 🪖
❌ Didn't look into the eyes of the driver 👀
❌ Didn't wave at the driver 👋🏻

Bollards will be installed to block other drivers

duuuude. I know everything is a dumpster fire but I just got a mailer about a large complete streets project in town and the death stroad near me is slated to get a protected bikeway. For *miles*. ❤️🥳

Oh great. We are carless by choice and use the 215 often. We don’t want a car. You don’t want us to get a car because the less my about-to-turn-88-yo-spouse drives, the better for everyone. I don’t want to have to move to PDX because I need sunshine.

Also as someone who bikes downtown everyday, it kind of really sucks. So the fact that so many people are doing it anyway means we should be leaning into that too.

Walking is first place with 65% of responds and trolley is second with 13%

Even the normie ass San Diegans (who, I kid you not, think Gaslamp has the best food scene) desire walkable neighborhoods

Yes. Media constantly portrays California's stagnant/declining population as a result of LOW demand to live here when it's the exact opposite (the population shrinks as the wealthy displace working class people because the wealthy have smaller family sizes) bsky.app/profile/juul...

I mean they vandalized the parking meters and now there's free parking. So we can just repaint the bus lanes and there will be dedicated bus lanes. That's how it works, apparently.

As my bus goes past the removed bus lanes, I’m just getting more mad as I realize:

there was no public comment period
no environmental study
no extended media coverage

They virtually did this over night. If they can do that, we should add it back over night.
