I think the word I’m looking for is fun, but I’m always struck by how much play factor was built into all ages and adult enjoyed old shows like Wild Wild West and Star Trek. Secret lab room with concealed armory is so fun.

Forged in Fire is fun, but that 10k prize is too low. On Chopped you win 10k for cooking about 1.5 hours. On Forged they smith longer than that, then go back home for days working on their last blade, with their own equipment, for that same amount.

What are their overheads???

I agree the case seems very winnable. It’s the cost of winning it that is the deterrent.

You can’t do all this by email.

Just the travel costs to the state that they want the case to be in is an expense I would not look forward to.

Fair use implies the material is owned. There should be no need for fair use of a public domain work if public domain were truly public and not loopholed by lawsuit harassment.

I feel maybe we need a “touch grass” expression about getting online and seeing what other people are seeing and saying.

I have to admit to not knowing anything about Air Pirates, but after reading the wiki page on the lawsuit, it seems he lost repeatedly and managed to not go to jail and not pay the ordered amounts, and so considered his case won.

Not sure I would test that strategy a second time.

Someone just needs to have the funds. There is at least one production (a musical, IIRC) that won the challenge in court. But how many are willing to spend that far?

While ZPI can own their Zorros, they act like they own THE Zorro, which they do not, but unless willing to fight them about it, they defacto do.

The difference is that if you look at all the recent Zorro comics, even Murphy’s creator owned Kickstarter, they have all legitimized Zorro Productions Inc as the licensor of Zorro. I suspect because ZPI is highly litigious and sends copyright challenges that could tie up and drain resources.
