A photo of a pilgrim seal stamp (goshuin) with the name of Hitsuji Shrine on it. The paper is yellow, with a pattern of fall leaves: maple and ginkgo. There is a photo of the shrineโs sheep statue in the bottom right corner.
Shrinemaxxing in Nagoya ๐ Is thisโฆ #ShrineSunday? ๐ฆ
The theme is animal shrines!
First is: Sheep ๐
Hitsuji Jinja ็พ็ฅ็คพ is supposedly one of only two sheep shrines in all of Japan! (the other is in Gunma Pref according to the priest).
Though the book, I hope to combat misinformation (as per the OP) circulating in Singapore by people whoโve not been harmed through the programme.
This is the first book of its kind and itโs currently not available in the public libraries so do get it for your queer Christian friend if need be.
Included are stories of people whoโve been through conversion therapy in Singapore.
Someone who had to take time off from uni to recover from his mental breakdown aft the programme, a person who was suicidal after it & a Catholic kid brought in by his parents.

Singaporeโs version of conversion therapy came from USA when Sy Rogers planted the Asia Pacific headquarters of Exodus International here.
Even after it shut down, they continued is still running today.
I wrote a book about it.
This is the ebook version:

I like this instrumental Ghibli Jazz:

Absolutely gorgeous photos of wildlife in Botswana taken by my friend. ๐
I should perhaps start uploading photos on my @leaflet.pub too. ๐ธ
Hmm. ๐ค
Simply put: fict/fact/fuct -
Fict = a fact in a fictional narrative;
Fact = held as true by a faction; and
Fuct = a fact that has been sold to people as if itโs good for them when โin factโ itโs just the opposite.
- I wonder what Fred wouldโve made of this momentโฆ
Okay that might be too many but you get the idea.
Maybe I should narrow it down to two books but it's a little tough.
Hmm. Decisions.
Kinda like:
- Boy Erased (Garrard Conley) meets
- Crazy Rich Asians (Kevin Kwan) meets
- An Unquiet Mind (Kay Redfield Jamison) meets
- My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness (Nagata Kabi) meets
- Genderqueer (Maia Kobabe)
- Without Buddha I Could Not Be A Christian (Paul F. Knitter)
My pitch is that it's a non-binary gay girl in Singapore who survives conversion therapy & seeks treatment for dysphoria while learning to accept herself & broadens her theological horizons by taking part in interfaith discussions as books and writing keeps her alive.
Okay that might be a tad long.
Nice.
I should re-write my memoir (Phoenix Rising: A Memoir about being Bipolar, Gay & Christian) & submit to suitable literary agents?
Hmm.
It was indeed!
I similarly loved it too. :))
The pride of Singapore even though the state is silent about it. Haha.
Fascinating. Gotta get myself a copy now. Thanks for sharing!

I run a queer micropress (Rainbow Lapis Press) in Singapore, specialising in publishing voices from the underrepresented, in a layered, flavourful & nuanced manner.
We just released our first title!

6. There have been so many literary analysis of Charlie Chan.
Hereโs one from the Second Singapore Literature Festival held in NYC.
Quite interesting really.

5. Singapore is a tiny country & I went to Sonny Liewโs garage sale last year where I got 7 graphic novels for a steal as he was clearing out his bookshelves for a renovation.
Heโs a soft-spoken and humble guy who has a true passion for comics.
Quite deserving of the international accolades.
4. Hereโs a 23 min book talk at Kinokuniya between Sonny Liew & Kenny, overall in charge of Kinokuniya Singapore.
Quite interesting insights.

2. Even this Sonny Liewโs book won 3 Eisners (the comics equivalent of an Oscar), the National Arts Council in Singapore didnโt name the book when they congratulated him on Facebook, triggering a local backlash.

1. This is one of Singaporeโs bestselling book, largely due to the Streisand effect.
The National Arts Council pulled the $8000 grant it gave as it โpotentially undermines the authority or legitimacy" of the ๐ธ๐ฌ govt.
It promptly sold out at Kinokuniya.

The medium is playfulness. :)
Inspired by one of his posts, I would put one interesting word in each can, and use *texts as toys*.
To play, each participant picks up a random can, takes out a word, and can play an assorted number of games.
1) Word Association Game: List as many orthogonal words.
2) Linking Word Stories Game

I might get it directly from the local bookstores when itโs out.
So looking forward to reading it.

Also, I remember being super fascinated with Kakak a while back and proceeded to dig up an academic paper from Harvard Divinity by a Malaysian scholar.

I remember my Malaysian Chinese friend telling me about a โ้ฆ่้ฌผโ which Iโve never heard before.
But she said I had! Only that I know it as a Pontianak.
Iโm intrigued that Kak P also appeared in the Qing dynastyโs drawings. Super cool.
