It was great to see this echoed by the DESNZ committee chaired by Bill Esterson , as well as in work by @nestauk.bsky.social , Energy UK, Citizens Advice and others👏

Electricity is expensive. And without proper levy reform, electrification will remain out of reach for millions. The answer? We need real change in the way energy levies are paid charged. Rebalancing is the key to an electric future.🔑

And without reform, the more renewable energy projects built, the more expensive this will get.Ben’s article highlights how the government’s focus on clean energy is inadequate if electricity remains too expensive for people to switch away from gas in their homes and businesses.

We need to address the systemic factors contributing to our high electricity prices and the rebalancing of policy costs between electricity & gas is a key mechanism to achieve this. Reforming levies is a crucial to tackling fuel poverty and making clean energy affordable for all.

British people and industry are paying some of the highest electricity prices globally, and this must change. Electrification should be the pathway to lower bills, not financial strain.
