As a Jewish constituent of Senator Schumer, as a New Yorker, and as a human being, I am outraged at Senator Schumer’s cowardly and libelous statement on the federally directed kidnapping of legal US and NY resident Mahmoud Khalil. We have now learned that expressing our opinions can lead us to be disappeared at the direction of the President. For Sen Schumer to harp on the nature of his kidnapped constituent’s alleged opinions before addressing the fact that HIS CONSTITUENT WAS KIDNAPPED explicitly aids and abets the Trump administration’s fascist project. I am further appalled by Sen. Schumer’s ongoing refusal to acknowledge the thousands of Jewish students at Columbia fighting for Palestinian liberation and calling for divestment from Israel, a *geopolitical entity* (NOT A RELIGION) whose policies they have every right to critique without being slandered as antisemitic. In his insistence that any critique of a nation-state and its policies and actions is de facto antisemitic, Sen. Schumer engages in profoundly anti-semitic behavior himself: he separates his Jewish constituents into “good Jews” and “bad Jews” on the basis of whether they agree with his personally held (and richly funded) positions on the Zionist project. Regarding his call for Columbia to be “much more robust” in “protect[ing] the safety and security of Jewish and other students”: hasOne substantial way Columbia has made its Jewish students unsafe is by calling in police to assault and arrest them, and by threatening them with expulsion. As Sen. Schumer’s loyalty to the nation of Israel drastically supersedes his interest in protecting and defending the rights of American citizens and residents, I welcome him to relocate and seek office there. I wish to be represented by a congressperson whose foremost concern is the constitutional rights of his constituents, not their opinions about a nation-state 5,700 miles from New York.
