General Thoughts on the relationship between the “wizard” archetype from ttrpgs (mostly D&D, which itself is more informed by sword&sorcery pulp fiction methinks?) and the Wizards from Tolkien.

trying to pick up knowledge from specialized fields without the benefit of a formal education is really strange because all the information is out there, somewhere, and you probably do actually have useful intuitions for how it's structured, but you learn the names for things in the 'wrong' order.
